I have purchased a C2D e6600, mobo, ram .. everything but the case and op system. Now I'm thinking that this processor may be 64bit and my 32bit copy of XP wont install on it. Is this correct or will my old copy of XP be fine?

Thanks for the help and sorry for the noobness :)

Core 2 Duos are fully compatible with 32-bit software, as are all other 64-bit x86 processors.

Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! I didn't want to have to fork out the extra cash for the OS upgrade right now although I'm sure the 64bit upgrade would also make some improvement in my system.

Thanks again

hey rook your system will be fine with XP. However, if are thinking about vista, hold off till the end of the year. currently XP is faster in a number of apps. not only that but vista is a memory hog hard core. Overall good choice on your chip, the e6600 is the sweet spot. i cant say anything about your mobo or ram as you did not list who made it or what model of product you got. nonetheless you will have a fast system based on that e6600. Have fun!
