I was watching techtv yesterday and some guy was talking about MAYA. It will be distributed free for personal/learning use. Follow the link below... We will have to wait till Feb 2002 though.

That is pretty cool! Too bad plug-ins wont work. Hopefully they will supply a few non-industry plug-ins to get some practice using them.

It has watermarks and a non-standard file format, so how useful is it except for dinking around with?

Didn't they come out with a gamer-oriented 3DSX Lite for free recently? Was that gMax?

Yep....a bit of research finds the scoop here. PC Gamer had is on their cover disc last month, I think.
