Maya 5.0 and 3D Studio MAX 5

Which is better? I have installed Maya 5.0 and 3D Studio MAX 4 but I am not sure if it is worth to upgrade to 3DS MAX 5? I also have Gmax(lite version).

Help me out there, Digital Artists!!!

Lets see. Maya is almost $2000. The newest 3dmax is $3100. Most people don't have both, most people who buy this don't have to come to a message board and ask which is better. They would usually figure that out before they make such a sizable purchase.

They might be legit copies, that is true, but if it smells like crap, looks like crap..I'm certainly not gonna taste it. 😉
 
I had 3DS MAX 4 2 years ago that come with computer sold to me and now I bought Maya 5.

When in doubt you might want to see my work on Blade 2 movie.

Wow really? You should be telling us which one is better then. Honestly, which is better in your opinion?
 
At my work I used Matador 64 and Nothing Real Shake softwares Those runs on Unix. I have not used any others that is why I ask for the opinion.
 
In general, it seems to me (from my limited, non-professional experience with earlier versions of both, on the wintel platform) that Maya is more powerful, but can be more confusing to learn at first (some of the key combinations are plainly odd). 3dsmax seems to be geared more toward those who make game models and stuff, while Maya seems to be better to use for more realistic renderings (of course, neither are limited to one or the other kind of work; this is just my subjective opinion on which is easier to use for what).
 
If you were going to work somewhere else, which applications would your potential employers be most likely to be using? If there's a strong trend towards one, go with that one.

All else being equal, and assuming you don't have time to stay familiar with both, stay with Maya, IMO. You can get enough done with Max 4 to know your way around if you get a job requiring Max knowledge. It wouldn't take long to get up to speed with v.5.

<-- stuck using 3DSMax 3.1 due to compatability issues with proprietary tools. 🙁
 
I have Susie Linux v7.2 but did not install on my computer due to graphic card incompatible. :frown:
