Has anyone written a fix to block windows from doing this? i have a legit copy, however I do not wish to participate in this.
It appears to be something you could uninstall from Add/Remove Programs if you want to. Put a checkmark in the "Show updates" box.
Can anyone else confirm this?
Update (haha): it's listed in Add/Remove Programs, but says it cannot be removed. Sorry to have misled anyone. You may now resume constructing your tinfoil deflector beanies :D

Time to update to KAV6 IS and stop this suckah!

This seriously pisses me off! MS may track hardware and some software, but what if they also started monitoring your download habits, emails, keystrokes, etc! It's only waiting for a hacker/virus writer to rewrite the IP address to send that kind of information to. It's like a trojan horse just waiting to be opened in our machines! :frown:

On a sidenote, is Vista going to have a similar activation process?

Beta 2 goes through the whole activation/WGA process. I think WGA is tied even more closely into the OS in Vista and unless MS gets into major trouble over WGA phoning home WGA will likely be something you can't opt out of in Vista.

Block it with a firewall that detects outgoing traffic FTW! :)
