Poorly designed or installed duct work. It's 94 outside right now, low of 75 last night. It's 68/69 (set to 69) in the house in every room. Good insulation/sealing helps too. It's only kicked on once today so far, for about 30 minutes.

The first floor cools down pretty fast however the second floor takes much longer and to get to 68 like your example requires the first floor to be 61 or below.

Some trees have been cut down in recent years and the upstairs is in direct sunlight all day. Also I like it super cool not just mildly cool. I would prefer zone cooling so the rooms I actually use are cooled and the other rooms are left.

I do much better in the cold than in the heat. I work outside and If it gets over 80 F and is very humid, I feel like I can't breathe or am not getting enough oxygen. I'll get really tired and sleepy and just have no energy at all. It's pure torture. But I can dress warm and in 0 degrees work all day outside.

Another scorcher today. The south is being hit way harder though so I won't complain. :p

Either way I'm stuck at work and it's air conditioned. If the office unit failed I'd just go chill in the battery room. They keep that room at like 10C for some reason lol.

It's hitting 94F today so I'll throw on the a/c finally. It was in the mid 80's yesterday which don't deserve any a/c.

Not to sound like an asshole,..but i hope for a 3 month heatwave.
I'm a bigger asshole. I hope Hawaii explodes, throwing up thousands of tons of ash, and blotting out the sun to bring winter to summer :^P

30C is a nice February day :p

I think 80/50F (27/10 C) is the perfect high/low. We're supposed to be around that now, but our highs have been in the mid to upper 90s.

I hate weather right now. 10 days ago it got so cold that we had to switch on the furnace at night. At mid May. WTF? Today I did an hour of light yard work around 9am and had to take a cold shower afterwards. It was getting kind of hot yesterday, but we toughed it out and kept AC off, I think we won't have choice but to switch it on today. And we already have mosquitoes. Where are my 6 weeks of perfectly pleasant spring and early summer temperatures of 74 degrees?

We had the hottest Mother’s Day in decades 2 weeks ago...this week, not supposed to hiy 70...and will probably rain by the weekend. I LOVE IT HERE!

Yeah that's brutal. Here today it was 25 feels like 30. But we have a ton of wind so it's not TOO bad, but would not want to have to work outside or do anything physical in that, that's for sure.
It was brutal going to work and it's still 23C and muggy.

Not much wind here either.

I am hoping for some cooler weather soon.

It has been 96 to 98 here in Austin for the last few days. Forecast is expecting around 98 to 99 for few more days, then 100+ for a week.

Please Lord! Bless my 13 years old AC!

So I ran my AC again this morning and I think I might know what's wrong with it, though I'm just guessing based on little evidence.

It cooled the house down from 77F to 74F in about 1.5-2 hours, while the supply vents maintained about 59-60F with the returns pulling ~72F. About five minutes after it turned off, the thermostat kicked it back on again, and it ran continuously just maintaining 74F. After 45 minutes, I went into the basement and found that the liquid line was cold! If I had to guess, probably around 40-50F. I turned the condenser off but left the furnace's blower fan on, and after a few minutes I had a bunch of water draining from the evap coil so I think the coil froze again.

Googling this, the cause may be a restriction in the liquid line. The most common cause is a clogged filter drier. My unit (Amana ASX13) has an internal one installed from the factory. Before I call someone out I think I'm going to give the condenser a good cleaning because I've never cleaned the fins and see if that does anything, but I doubt it. The fins look pretty clean to me but it shouldn't hurt to try. It should be between the mid-50s to low-70s next week, so at least this isn't urgent.

Small update... I cleaned the fins and straightened out the bent ones. Also cleaned out a lot of crap from the bottom of the unit. I spent about two hours trying to get the top cover back on - it just wouldn't fit back onto the side panels. I finally managed to get it on after removing the service cover for the cap/wiring, but I now have four extra screws (I know where they go... I might try to disassemble/reassemble it today) but it ran without any additional vibrations so whatever.

After all of that, the performance isn't any better. I'll have to have somebody come out and look. I did see that the filter drier was pretty rusted on the top. I guess whenever I have it serviced, maybe I can hand the tech the four extra screws and have him reassemble it properly... it's gonna have to be taken apart again anyways. :p
