We do have a couple months of no snow. Though technically snow/ice could probably be stored underground or something and last the summer. The last time I was in the bush there was a bit of snow left on the ground in shaded areas. I imagine it's all gone now though.

That's about the hottest I've ever seen, was down south in Toronto area and think it was considered hot for even there. I hope I never have to witness that temp again, that was brutal. Was at Canada's Wonderland and it's like 10 bucks for a bottle of water lol.
 
It's been in the mid-90s here in St. Louis. We're supposed to be at 75. If I buy a house I'm loading it down with solar panels so I can keep it 65 inside 😛

it gets brutal here in Southwestern Ontario. Same for Detroit. It's the humidity that makes the heat unbearable here. I am not looking forward to July.

Back home on the Gulf Coast I was cutting my grass and noticed it was hot. I got my thermometer and it was 109F (42.8C) with 54% humidity in my yard. I don't trust that it was perfectly accurate, but that's a 155F (68C) heat index. It definitely felt like standing in the shower right after turning off the water.

That's brutal, but the worst part is the stretches of weeks where the lows are in the 80s (~30C). Never a break.

Just make sure you check your states laws or hoa / town ordinances as they can force you to cut the tree down if it starts to block the solar panels like that.
 
I am thinking of getting an a/c unit as well. I do not need it chilling cold, just around 21C. A small one should do it.
If i put the air conditioner in a small room with the door open, would it also sufficiently cool the other rooms as long as i keep the doors open ? Less then 70m^2 area.

A friend of mine has a two story, 18th century farmhouse. He could keep the whole thing reasonably cool with a single window unit on the top floor, and a collection of box fans. Sounded like a wind tunnel, but it worked. He later got a second unit for the first floor, and cut out some of the fans.

Ok, i see.
The thing is that my windows face the rising sun and in the evening the falling sun.
I have already installed white reflective blinds in front of my curtains to reflect as much sunlight as possible but it works only as well as these blinds are mounted behind the window and not on the outside.
It is not possible to do that.
And i live on the top floor of the building with a black roof, luckily it has solar panels mounted but not enough for my taste. It can get pretty hot in here.
During July or August, temperatures of 30C is not uncommon.
I really want to get ahead of the issue.
On the other hand, i do not want to make it too cold or have large temperature swings, Lil' Crumb( pet) might get sick.
 
Having an apartment makes it tough. I'm guessing it's pretty humid there? That's an issue where I'm at. Opening windows lets in heavy wet air. If It's not so bad, you can open the windows to blow air in when the sun's not on them, and blow out on the other side. Reverse direction as the sun moves. What kind of critter's Lil' Crumb?
 
Moved into my new house officially last Friday, noticed the AC wasn't cooling the way I expected... Yea, it's broken. #SadNewHomeOwner.

Unfortunately couldn't get it thoroughly inspected prior to closing (it was still really cold here), and work/vacation has been so busy the last 2 months I just finally got a look at it this past week.

Going to be a hot few weeks until I get this fixed.
 
Before I got central AC I got a portable 1 ton unit (all my windows are crank so window units don't really work without heavy modification). I would point the output of the portable to the furnace return and then run the furnace blower. It helped a bit to keep the house cool. The best is when I closed the door to the office, which is less than 100 sqft and had 1 ton of cooling capacity blasting in that room. 😀

I always have the windows open when there is a breeze. I live in a humid part of the Netherlands near the North sea.

Lil Crumb is a Russian dwarf hamster.

She is really funny. For example, yesterday i almost forgot to renew her water bottle. She walks near it looks at me and stick out her front left paw in the direction of the water bottle for a 3 seconds while being 5 cm away from it and looks right at me. Retracts her paw and moves into another direction 😵

Or when she has to pee, she sits in her toilet (Hamsters have a designated place for a toilet, usually a part of the cage with sand ) and when i looked at her what she is doing, she turns her head and looks at me directly with her eyes squinted and angry and then turns her head again.
I am not supposed to look, i guess. 😳

One day, i was giving her some fresh nuts, and i dropped the bag next to her by accident. So, she fled into her little house , turns around. sticks her head out and raises it up, with squinted eyes and makes one loud squeak while looking directly at me. 😕
 
She's cute. I had hamsters as a kid, but didn't have much luck with them. My longest lived was 18 months, and most got wet tail, and died within a year. I had a couple that were real assholes. They'd bite the shit out of my hand when I put it in the cage.

The problem is to get a hamster from good pedigree. Most in the shops bought hamsters are bred through and through with hardly any fresh genes. I bought this hamster from a very good hamster seller who has a whole room of hamster and breeds them. But she buys now and then from touted breeders new hamsters to breed with. Also, she wants to know that if the hamster gets ill for whatever reason. If it is a genetic issue because all siblings have it , she will stop breeding with the parent hamsters. Sher has an internet pet shop and sells a lot of material for many different pets.
Also in the regular shops, when the hamsters are very young , they want to hide and seek a cozy dark place. But if the hamster hides, then potential customers cannot buy a hamster.
So the shop owners often make sure the hamster has no place to hide in a glass aquarium with very bright lights. This is very stressful for little hamsters and if they have just a bit more stress, because of a new home and kids that want to play with them, they develop wet tail. It is not the kids fault, they are thrilled. But the parents should be aware of this and teach the children to let the hamster sit in their cage for a few days alone, so that it gets comfortable and then start with a few minutes of giving the hamster some food and let it get used to the child. Slowly a bond of trust develops and the hamster is not stressed and will respond a lot more relaxed. One thing, when they are little or mature and your hands smell like food, they will nibble and sometimes bite.
 
I hate weather right now. 10 days ago it got so cold that we had to switch on the furnace at night. At mid May. WTF? Today I did an hour of light yard work around 9am and had to take a cold shower afterwards. It was getting kind of hot yesterday, but we toughed it out and kept AC off, I think we won't have choice but to switch it on today. And we already have mosquitoes. Where are my 6 weeks of perfectly pleasant spring and early summer temperatures of 74 degrees?
