My thoughts exactly.

w/ $10,000 down

You can get a good $300,000 loan for a home.

Try with NOTHING down you can get about 400,000. This was the case with my wife and I at least. Of course we didn't TAKE that much credit, because the house payments would have been INSANE. They are bad enough right now. Especially with Taxes getting reassesd this year for us. The banks are ALL too happy to let you have WAY more than you can take, because then they get to keep your money when they forclose on the house. AND they get a house to sell again.

500 is negligible compared to a down towards a house. what the hell?

If it's really prohibiting you to buy a house, then you can't afford one right now.

You need an absolute minimum $100K/yr combined income to scrap together a crappy home.

I see you live in DVK's world, as well. They must not teach you about reality there.

You're right... $500 by itself isn't going to put a huge dent into buying a house.

But what you are missing is that he never said that selling the 360 was make or break for getting the house. Not only that, but if he were to sell the 360 and then do 9 other sacrifices like that, we're talking $5000.

I remember when saving up for our first house, I cut back on eating out for lunch. No, the $8 every now and then didn't put us over the edge for the down payment... It all does add up though.

Like most things in life, it's all accumulative. 🙂

Yeah, but the OP never mentioned what other expense cutting and saving measures he's taking.

I dont need to hock stuff, but it is another unneccessary thing that I could put back into the house. Plus we are getting married next year and I have to fund that too.

BLASPHEMY!! The XBox 360 is a necessary item for me! When I move into a house it definitely is coming!

At least someone gets what I am trying to do here. And as for eating out, that stopped a long time ago and it does add up

His post was about just venting regarding losing the 360... It wasn't about his downpayment. Did you expect his complete financial profile?

Yes. And his blood type and sperm count as well. 😉

Looking to buy a house and if we are approved, the 360 might have to go. Kind of sucks, but made a deal with my fiance that as soon as we are married I can use some of the wedding money to buy another one so she doesnt bitch about it when the time comes for me to want another one. Sucks to because I have 2 games, wireless adapter, 1 year of live, the monster cable HD pack, warranty from BB, all that jazz, but it will be worth it to get out of the apartment. I guess I can still use the 7800 thats in my comp to game for the time being. Just wanted to vent a bit.

I hope she is in charge of the bank account and all major decisions.

"Damm you dumb boy..."

lol...well I have a friend who works at BB 😉 so with the warranty I can get them to cover many things, and as for the monster cables, lets just say I didn't pay retail.

I still think its a bad idea, I don't think you are going to get anywhere near your money back on what you paid for the 360. Which would be ok, but the fact you plan on buying it again later, you are just losing money on the deal.

You all don't realize how little houses cost in Indiana. That $500 could very well be 1% or more of the value of the house.

$500 could be a 2% downpayment on a small/old house around here. you could get an acre of land with a nasty old mobile home for $10k or less i think. out in the middle of nowhere

Even if this is the case, the OP is not financially fit enough yet to think about a house yet.

Possibly, but it doesn't take a whole lot of income to cover a 30 year mortgage on a $50k home. Probably less than he's paying in rent.

How in the world do you know that??? Are you really judging his (and his fiancee's) entire financial status based on a single post about his 360???
