May have to sell my xbox 360

Looking to buy a house and if we are approved, the 360 might have to go. Kind of sucks, but made a deal with my fiance that as soon as we are married I can use some of the wedding money to buy another one so she doesnt bitch about it when the time comes for me to want another one. Sucks to because I have 2 games, wireless adapter, 1 year of live, the monster cable HD pack, warranty from BB, all that jazz, but it will be worth it to get out of the apartment. I guess I can still use the 7800 thats in my comp to game for the time being. Just wanted to vent a bit.

The $500 you going to get for it really going to make a difference on a down payment on a house? You don't live in CA do you?

No I live in Indiana, and I still believe they are in short supply, but I figure with all the add ons I can get more than 500 for it I hope

That's what I'm thinking. If you have to sell your 360 for the downpayment, can you really afford the house?

If the price of an Xbox360 is going to keep you from getting a house or not, then you are too strapped for cash and should not own the price point of house you are getting.

I dont need to hock stuff, but it is another unneccessary thing that I could put back into the house. Plus we are getting married next year and I have to fund that too.

yep. It doesn't seem like you're selling coz your fiance thinks it's taking up too much of your time. Instead you're selling for the money....which means you're too broke to afford a house.

500 is negligible compared to a down towards a house. what the hell?

If it's really prohibiting you to buy a house, then you can't afford one right now.

You need an absolute minimum $100K/yr combined income to scrap together a crappy home.

I'm guessing that the OP is selling the Xbox360 along with a list of other things to raise funds. So overall it'll be a big impact.

Thanks, at least you didnt chime in as my financial advisor and tell me I am too broke to buy a house. We are getting a good deal, and it is about as much as we are paying for rent. Just a little anxiety on my part because I view it as such a huge deal. The extra money could be used to furnish part of it too, not just addition to the downpayment.

Yep, going to have to back everyone else here and say that if you are that desperate for cash, then you definately don't need to lock yourself into a 30 year loan. Look at it this way, the Xbox is a sunk cost, you have already paid for it, etc. If you can't make the house work on what you have on hand, then you really shouldn't be doing it. Also I would point out that if you have to take a loan for your wedding (I Know you have mentioned no such thing) it is costing you too much. *smirk*

Depends on where you live. In some parts of central KY where I am, that number would be more around $70k, as low as $60k for a decent home in the mountains away from everything.
