Maxtor problem

Posted this in "tech" but no one seems to know - anyone here?

running my system with a 7200 40 gig maxtor

as second drive am trying to put in maxtor 7200 30 gig -
can't do it

the drive is screwed up - came from another machine - on that machine I knew I screwed it up but thought it not a problem - I had "go back" on it - and then to make matters worse I inadvertently let it become part of "raid" - didn't mean to

Anyway now fdisk just hangs when I ask it to change fixed drive so I can look at this screwed up 30 gig
I need to wipe this thing out and format but I can't even get in there

I am up and running with the 40 gig so if I installed partition magic could that do what fdisk fails to do or is there a special dos disk that will let me start over with this screwed up drive??

Any ideas - thanks

Try downloading and running Maxtors MaxBlast utility and see if that works for you. If you don't want the MaxBlast soft bios on your disk, you can always FDISK and FORMAT afterwards to get rid of it.

Hope this helps 🙂
