Maxtor Maxline II hard drive dead already?

When I start my computer up I notice that my computer gets stuck on the "loading Windows" screen. I can hear my new Maxtor hard drive kinda clicking on and then off again like it's trying to spin up then it spins down.

I'm guessing it's dead. I am wondering if this is normal for a Maxtor Maxline II hard drive? I know it does get kinda hot but I mean my Raptor is in there and it's a 10k RPM drive and it didn't burn itself out within two weeks.

I had a new Maxtor drive that lasted a total of one hour, but then again i still have one thats about 6 years old and still going...

I case anybody here does not know it yet, 2 or my 3 Maxtors I bought in March died within a week lately. Raid-5 doesn't like two dead drives...

And it wasn't retailer handling or shipping, one of the deads was from zipzoomfly/UPS, one was from newegg/Fedex.

I've never really seen a reason why some people say Maxtor = garbage.

I've owned several of their HDs, including one that I still have in my system that is probably 4-5 years old (an older 40gig drive that I just store media on). I've never had a problem with any of them.

I'd say no matter which brand you buy, there's a chance you're going to get a bad one.

before you rma it, try the freezer trick and see if that works. 😀

my reason is that they fail all the time, and that I read this about others all the time.

there's my reason why maxtor = garbage.
