Maxtor Maxblast is taking forever to copy a drive

Am I going to destroy anything if I just reset the system and clone the old drive with Acronis True Image???

It has been "copying" for over an hour and it's at 50%. Does Maxblast just copy the data, or is it moving it? The old hard drive is only 40GB, but is possibly failing and I want to get this done. The guy who owns this machine is waiting for me call him soon, and I don't want to drag this out.

clif notes: am I going to mess anything up by stopping the Maxblast copying process?

I would let Maxtor run its cycle, especially if the one drive may be dying.

yeah, it's at 62% now, so I'm just going let it go I guess. I clicked the stop button at 19%, but it didn't stop.

You're fortunate it's only 40GB. I think I did similar with an almost full 80GB once and it took five hours or something. Perhaps that Ontrack schtuff just does a file copy with verify, rather than sector imaging like TrueImage or Ghost.

yep there was 30GB of data on that 40GB drive and it took like 2 hours to copy. I think TI would have done it in less than an hour.

I use the clone feature in Norton Ghost. A HDD of that size with 30gigs takes about 20 minutes to copy over.

I try to keep the two HDDs on diff IDE channels too.

I have used Ghost for 6 years at least and Acronis True Image for about 6 months, but I thought I would use the handy disc that came with the new drive. DOH! One drive was an IDE and one was a SATA. Anyway, It turned out fine.
