Is this hot? Or is there something wrong with the drive? Not sure if it was ever in stock, at this price.

Edit: Forgot to add that it's out of stock and back-ordered. Can't find too much info on these (one tom's hardware review) and at most other places it's about a $100 more.

Also Maxtor is now considered Crap by most. Seagates are the new hotness.

I, for one, don't consider Maxtor crap. Though they are a little bit louder, I've had more reliability with them than Western Digital. Seagate are definitely nice though, especially with their 5 year warranty.

Ive had the worst from them on reliability. At work we have had about 25 Maxtors go out. Maybe 5 Western Digitals and 1 Seagate. We have over 600 PC's here on campus with a mixture of parts.

At another job we had 10 computers. 3 Maxtors have gone out on two machines and 2 Western Digitals that are used in a RAID on one machine (though the WDs were due to a bad power supply)

Save it for the choir. MaxLine III drives are great and perform better than Seagate.

I bought two of these to raid them a month ago, and they are very quiet and very fast. They also support command queing which is usually only available in enterprise scsi class hard drives. Very good Buy!

We got a bad batch of Seagates last year ... purchased 250+ PCs and ended up replacing 75+ drives. Folks, you can always find someone with a different story and a liking for a brand that they personally feel don't just crap out on them. What was great 2 years ago may be garbage from that manufacturer now. If it comes with a good warranty, its at least got that going for it. I've been buying WD SE's exclusively for about three years due to their extended warranty on those models, but now that they dropped the SE warranty length, I will look elsewhere.

damn, that is hot, i want one so bad! (esp at that price)... I signed up for the e-mail when back in stock notification...

Question, were those Maxtors that died the smaller 20-40GB "slim" drives?

Not sure yet i f it's worth it. I'm not a huge gamer or anything. I just want something to plug in my passively cooled Gigabyte 6600GT, when it comes out. I am building my first system...kind of a hybrid HTPC/gaming PC. I might do mild overclocking, but I'm relatively new to this.

You gonna dump $200+ on a brand spanking new motherboard with a brand spanking new chipset and brand spanking green BIOS? I'd let it mature for a while before I'd plunk that kinda money down on the heart of my system.

Yup. I've done it before without problems, and I'll do it again. So go ahead and wait if you're scared of something new, doesn't bother me one bit. One less person competing for the limited stock when they hit the market.
