Maxtor Hard drives

Specifically the Maxtor 5 T040H4. I have this drive, and when I start up or reboot my computer, as Windows loads, it is quite noisy, but is fine then. Is this just normal and I am overly used to my 60GXP? It's nothing liek the clicking or anything which I experienced with the 75GXP

I have the 20gig version of this drive that I boot from occaisionally (I normallly boot from a 60GXP) and the little extra noise is sort of disconcerting. I think it's normal for this drive though.<crosses fingers>

Maxtor has some accoustic management software available on their website that will make the drive quieter at the cost of some performance...

I have the exact same drive, and it is, indeed, noisy. If you enable the quiet management software, you lose transfer speed, but it will be really silent.
