Maxtor... DiamondMax vs. MaXLine

I am curious as to the difference(s) between Maxtor's DiamondMax line and their MaXLine drives? I know the MaXLines have a longer warranty and are "designed" for business... but what I really want to know is how they compare in performance? Which is faster, etc...

Specifically the DiamondMax 10 6B300S0 vs. the MaXLine III 7B300S0...

Last I heard the difference betwixt the 16MB cache versions was not physical but just in marketing and perhaps support (i.e. warranty). Check out storagereview.
 
Have there already been numerous failures witht he diamondmax10 series? I wonder how you can say that these particular seagates are more reliable in comparison to this one. Putting aside people's track record (and ive had just as many seagates as wd's as maxtors fail give or take)
 
People have a deep-set hatred towards the Maxtor company in general. But really, they offer better performance (temp and quietness too) and last just as long. Plus their 3-year warranty doesn't slap on 20 dollars to the price. Those 5-year warranties are severely overrated.

Just look at the recent AAT review of recent hard drives. The Maxtor comes out on top in a lot of them.
 
The maxline are designed for reliable 24x7 operation rather than top performance. They would be great for a media server where performance isn't really an issue.

I just wish Samsung would make some larger drives, their 120 -160 GB models are cheap yet offer reliable, decent performance while running cool and quiet.
 
From my own experience, I have seen 4 dead IBM drives, 3 seagate (all really old though), 1 maxtor and 0 WD so far..
it can't be accurate because it's only out of a sample size of 20, or maybe 30 harddrives.
However, it really doesn't make me feel that Maxtor is more unreliable than then others. I only have one complain to Maxtor because one of my my 3 year old Maxtor suddenly becomes very noisy although it is still working fine and I am still using it everyday for less important tasks.

Hard drive performance differences are so small I consider them a non-issue at this point. Perhaps SATA II and NCQ will change that in the upcoming days, but right now...

Plus, a corrupted/crashed faster hard drive isn't much help is it 😕

The only differences between these two are the validation process and a longer warranty period that the MaXLine III has.
