Anyone use Maxtor's advanced RMA? I just used their advanced RMA service to replace a 80 GB drive that just died. Their online warranty action and 2 day turn around and two day shipping seems cool...

Anyone else have any experience with Maxtor's RMA service, and specifically the Advanced RMA service?

Got a new drive today...80GB...7200 RPM (upgrade) and ATA133 (Upgrade!!!!)...

Now I'm slowing copying over data...smaller files at a time...only had to reboot the system twice so far...about 50 GB of stuff to transfer...

Got all my data recovered...took about 10-12 hard reboots, but the drive stayed alive long enough to let me transfer all my data over!!!!

I could use some insight on this too. I know they take your credit card number, but is there any type of hold/charge put on your account while they're shipping the drive out?

Not in the 2 times that I've used their advanced RMA service. Best thing about using the Advanced RMA with Maxtor is that you can use the box and foam they send the replacement drive in as packing materials for returning the drive being RMA'd to them. Expect your replacement drive to be there by Wednesday or so.

I've used both Maxtor and Western Digital's rma service. Both are excellent.
Got back exactly what I shipped them so no upgrades. Did have a customer get lucky with IBM though. Shipped them I think a 40gb to replace a 30gb in their notebook.

Sweet...I hope the drive arrives Wednesday...I've got a ton of data retrieval...

The drive isn't totally dead...put if it is on for more than five minutes, the drive makes the "Death grinding" sound and it becomes inaccessibble...

its great! sent in a 40gb. got back 60gb. :)

sent in 60gb, got back 60gb :(

sent in 60gb, got back 80gb! :) thats all the RMAing I have done. Haven't need to do it in awhile. The reason I had to do it so many times cuz of bad placement of hard drive. kept overheating.

Use their online RMA service if you're using MAxtor...was the easiest RMA i've ever done... Maxtor holds your credit info just to make sure you send your old drvie back within 30 days...

You should call up the RMA dept and complain and ask if they would be willing to swap back.

hey my maxtor 80gb died also, gotta rma that. They were a little upset that i put the drive in the freezer, saying that maxtor does not officially support that procedure, whatever. Hopefully they send me an equivalent (diamondmax 9) or better.

You told them that you did that? Let me know if yours worked or not after pulling it out to try and get some of the data off it.

I did the advanced rma with maxtor with a 30gb drive. got another 30gb drive in the mail 2 days later. I sent in the old drive in the same packaging that they sent me. I don't think that they were holding the amount.

It was very painless. Unlike the 45gb IBM hd that I had to rma. But at least I got back a 60gb.

i agree. i went ahead and did the regular RMA. i received a new drive which was 10 gigs bigger in less than a week. i was very surprised and satisfied at their services. usually stuff that gets shipped here takes damn long, but they got it here in a very respectable time.

THis was my first failed HD. Luckily caught it as soon as it started making a "grinding" noisy, and was able to save and transfer all of my data...50+GB of video files and my lifetime supply of Music, including hard to get Hawaiian music...

feeling very lucky...plus got an free upgrade on the drive...
