Maxtor 80GB SATA or Hitachi 7K250 80GB SATA? ZipZoomFly or Newegg?

If you review my Rig (there are two, it is the one with my name on it of course), you'll see my setup. Anyways, all I have in the PCI slots is a NIC card and a Sound Blaster Audigy2. I am under the impression that this isn't enough to cause troubles, since they say this on Storagereview's forums. So I decided i'll get one of these S-ATA drives to boost my performance. My budget can't go over $90 for an 80GB drive, so this is just fine being that one is $79.50 on ZipZoomFly/$80 on Newegg and the Maxtor is $86 on ZipZoomFly/$88 on Newegg. I am in need of a big boost because the performance of this Barracuda is extremely disappointing now. I have been building apps from source, video editing/creation (this includes occaisonal testing of video codecs with my own DVDs), Sound editing/music creation and I play the latest games (BF1942, NFS Underground to name a few). I am a big power user, but I don't need a RAID configuration (even if I had the money for an additional one).

I found one review with the controller on my NF7-S Rev 2 board as well as the same 2500+ @ EnvyNews here. They said the downside was occaisonally spotty write performance. If you could review that (if needed) and tell me which one YOU think would be best, that would be grateful 🙂. I am buying either one of those two on Newegg or ZipZoomFly. I have never used this ZipZoomFly but i've heard a few people tell me to check it out, and I like the prices as well as this Free 2day Shipping I see on those HDDs. What do you think about the write performance? I think I should overlook it, since Storagereview and its users seem to like it a lot, but I am no expert with the latest HDDs and so I ask for help here 🙂. Oh yea, one more thing: I always search before I ask, and if i'm asking its because other topics didn't help me out 😉.

Dude get the Hitachi I have 2 of these drives in a RAID, they are really fast, very quiet, and well worth the money!

Either vendor is top notch, so go with whoever is cheaper. I would get the Hitachi, I have heard great things about these4 new drives, and according to sotrage review3 they are the fastest you can get at the 7200RPM SATA spec.

I highly recommend Newegg, as I have many great experiences with them. Any problems I have ever had with orders have been resolved in one phone call that never exceeds 5 minutes. I have ordered 10+ times from them.

I don't have experience with zipzoomfly, but I have heard good things on these forums. Also, they have a 8.58 lifetime rating and a 9.06 six-month rating at Reseller Ratings. As well, they are listed as one of the top stores on the home page of Reseller Ratings.

If it were me buying the drive, then I would go with Newegg because I like to support companies with high-quality service. It's not that Zipzoomfly has low-quality service, but Newegg gets outstanding reseller ratings, and I have many good experiences with them already. However, I don't think you'll run into problems with Zipzoomfly. If saving those few bucks is worth it to you, then by all means purchase your drive from them.

Oh good i'm glad i'm making a good decision then 😀
I'll buy the Hitachi. I do recognize that it is on the PCI bus (someone PM'd me telling me it is 😛😛) and I have found those fears for a setup like mine to be completely unfounded (I've asked around). I think I will try ZipZoomFly since you recommended it and other people seem to like it. So, ZipZoomFly is just as quick about things as Newegg? Where are they at anyways.

Edit: I have purchased from Newegg practically a billion times [didn't mention that] and I like it and I wasn't interested in saving a few bucks. If you look at them, the Newegg one is $80 w/ free fedex saver shipping and the ZipZoomFly one is $79.50 with Free 2Day Shipping 🙂. I was just curious about it...perhaps I could try that place, but in the end i'll probably buy from Newegg just to be safe.

A deposit I was waiting for went in sooner than expected, and I just ordered it off of Newegg. 🙂
So I suppose i'll unsubscribe myself from this post here . . .
