I was desperate and bought one of these in the store yesterday when my HD crashed. I didn't notice until afterwards that the rebate was for Staples.com, not just Staples. Am I out of luck, or will they still honor it?

There is a new rebate listed on the staples site which says it is good for authorized resellers. This means that you can purchase it in store. Some have suggested that the two rebates could be used since they are adressed to two different departments and staples is lenient about accepting copies of upc labels.

I lost two IBM Deskstars recently, actually they run sometimes, but click horribly other times. I must say, it doesn't seem to matter where they came from because they're dying now. To boot, I sent one of the drives back to be RMA'd and I got another failing drive from IBM. Yay.

Thanks! I hardly ever buy anything at Staples without some sort of discount coupon, but yesterday I was desperate.

This would be an even more awesome deal if both rebates work. They both specifically say in their terms that no copies of the rebate will be accepted. Also, they are both going to nearly the same address (they just differ by the department it is addressed to).

I suppose it is possible to choose to send the original to one, and a photocopy to the other, with the condition that you may not receive one of the rebates. Good luck to anyone who gets this to work. I guess we'll find out in 2 months or so.

A 6L080L4 was delivered to me in the Seattle area. Liquid bearing.

Cool, this is just what I wanted; thanks for the thread, Mr. Chang.

Err, the only 80 they have has a different model number than what Staples is showing. Wouldn't they reject a PM right away?

I mailed my Staples/Maxtor rebate on July 11; the check arrived on August 9. I'd say the rebate service is pretty darn good!!

I tried this and the rep. denied complu+ because of the warranty's didn't match. I then asked if she knew of a site that I could PM againts. She told me to check newegg.com. Ohyea - $102.5 was the Pricematch. $102.5 - $20 (cpn) $84 shipped - $30MIR = $54.

I was looking for a new drive. Thanks!

PS..
PM where the other rebate is located (not stables).

don't see how or why staples would price match with newegg.com.. they only seem to sell OEM drives. and the staples drive is a full retail version. anyone have luck finding the staples drive anywhere else for less, so you can price match?

The rep matched the newegg.com drive. I didn't argue it was retail vs OEM. She put me on hold, called newegg for stock/confirm price and came back to me with approval. Give it a try. She told me they have a database with approved/denied PMs. Have the rep look you one up! Got my drive to today.

yeah, I saw this thread on FW before I left work....sounds pretty hot, since there's a new staples rebate, so there's a $30 MIR from Maxtor and a $30 MIR from Staples........they're going to the same place, but don't let that deter you, as different departments were confirmed as different rebates. And Staples will take copies of the UPC.

I found a 30 dollar rebate from staples, not the one offered by the manufacter, but they both ask for the ORIGINAL UPC code, how would you get around this, cuz if you do, you can pretty much get this harddrive for 30 bux.

I just installed my drive as primary Master, but I'm currently booting from my IBM DTLA 20GB until this weekend. I think..yea just a little, the drive is louder than my IBM. No too loud though. The model number is #L01J080G. Is this the Ball Bearing?

I plan on sending Staples the original and Maxtor the copies. I know Staples rebates are good so I want that to process without a hitch. Maxtor is just a plus if it goes through.

Maxtor's rebate was posted above...first link!
