Here is a pretty good deal if you are looking for a good drive.

go to Magnatek.com

Print this out, go to Staples, curse a lot at the pathetic looser manager until he gives you the pricematch, after he has agreed to it hand him a print out of the $30 off $150 coupon available around.

{sorry about the derrision(sp?) but Staples is a PITA}

$229 Staples price (may or may not have the free controller)
-$84 price match
+$5 shipping
-$30 coupon
=$130 plus tax

Other tools needed:
-print out from Maxtor web site proving they only make one drive meeting this discription
-A copy of Staples price match policy so you can read it to the idiot Staples manager (I went to 3 different Staples to get two of these drives and got some of the dumbest excuses for not doing the match)
-A highlighter for the policy to emphisise that the policy clearly states they only have to call and verify stock if the site says LTD. quantities and that they do indead match web sites (that came from the store manager - for the love of God)(I actually read this out load to the schmuk)
-Alot of time
-A pleasant or beligerent attitude (tried it both ways got a drive each time)
-Good Luck

Looks like they have removed it from thier site. This is over.

i have tried so hard to PM an oem product but all the CSR keeps turning it down. I actually accidentally got the same CSR twice when i tried to PM an Oem prodcut after it was rejected the first time. the lady was like, didnt i just talk to you? i told you WE DONT PM oem products. however, i dont know if this is the case with this drive though. i havent tried

I wanted to second AAjax. Speaking as Loss Prevention at a unnamed retailer I would suggest the pleasent attitude over the beligerent one. The second won't get you a drive but will get you a oral tresspass notice which means you can't EVER (100 years) return to that store :)

I've successfully pricematched OEM items @ Staples for the full retail version, but never push it, there's a different item # & SKU, etc, let's not kill the goose that laid the golden egg, I really enjoy the legit PM's @ Staples.

Let's see, Value America is gone, Buy.com was just delisted by Nasdaq...

Considering many staples don't have internet access, a pricematch with oem to retail parts is highly possible, provided the website you are using doesn't list the product that clearly.

For phone pricematches, many of the CSRs are getting wise on the oem to retail stuff and aren't doing it anymore. However, there always is the lazy or careless one that just doesn't seem to care.

-Provided you do get the retail box at staples, remember after you sell all the included stuff, the price can drop below 100.

I never said to curse. In fact I would never use profane language. I work retail too - in fact I worked at Staples 3 years ago. I always ty to be as nice as possible and I am never the one who starts being nasty. In my days at Staples we were told the customer is always right and to "just do it". I really don't know why they have gotten so trully awfull in thier service.

By the way there is no hot deal here unless you want to commit fraud against Staples

Lock her up.

it's still on the staples site, no panic.

- If staples pricematches, then let them pricematch. It's not like there is a HUGE difference between an OEM drive and a retail (both price wise, and that you get). Certainly not a big enough difference to start spouting "lock" or "fraud".

-I would be the first to call against fraud. Too much fraud would be wrong, and would lead to a stop of all pricematching.

-Rest assured Staples still makes money, and makes sales. If I was a retailer I would rather sell something at cost than not sell it at all.
