Maxtor 40GB Hard Drive, 7200 RPM for $69.99

I did deal on 20 gig maxtor And its going on 3 months since I malied rebate out. just checked status My check was mailed on 3/5

How would this drive be in a RAID Stripe setup with my IBM 40 GB GXP60? Or should I get another GXP60 to get the exact same drive? How important is the identical drive in a RAID setup?

-Pak

I think this is a repost. Search for Maxtor...although it's nice to have the coupon link

edit: coupon link is a referral link...not a code.

I am still waiting on the 30GB rebate too - But I need another drive - so I got this one -
THANKS - great final price

<< Anyone know if this drive has the newer FDB motor or the older BB motor ? >>

looks like the older one. I'm thinking the newer ones are on the ATA133 drives...this is ATA100

I think similar size , same RPM speed, and same IDE speed (66 or 100) are all that matter for raid , purist will say identical though.

Why pay $70 after MIR?

Staples has this drive (or one similar enough for pricematch) for $100. Best buy has it for $130 with $30 MIR and $20 GC. I got the drive, got both rebates, brought Staples ad next day (well, not Staples ad, but a printout from instorespecials.staples.com site). BB guy called Staples to confirm price and I got $33 PM back (I guess BB is getting on the 110% PM deal). So, total after 2 MIRs is $47 plus tax.

I did it this week, on March 3rd and March 4th, so deal is still alive.

The $100 Staples price is $20 off the regular website price, and is available as an in-store special. To get to the web page for this, click on the "weekly specials" button on the home page and then go look for the "in-store specials" button on the page for the weekly specials. You might need to identify the location of your local staples. You can then add this item to the printable shopping list to take over to BB. It will show the date, the location and the price. Then you can take advantage of BB's $30 rebate and $20 giftcard (available on their website, if the BB salesclerk won't give it to you). This has worked for others at FW. Note: if the last letter in the SN is a J, then the drive is a ball bearing drive; if it's an L, then it's the fluid bearing drive (latter is quieter).🙂

i was going try the PM Staples' in store special price at Office Depot after ordering online using $20 coupon, cash payment and in-store pickup but for the life of me i couldn't get the coupon to show up in my cart, but even if I had it would not have helped matters for it was not available for in store pick up. So i guess I will have to head out to Best Buy and try my luck there

I had the same problem with the referral coupon so I called and after some mucking around, the OD CSR let me have the $20 online coupon even though it was a referral link. I did call ahead to the store where I wanted in-store pickup to make sure they had it. Otherwise, even the CSR will say it is not available for in-store. Nice manager at OD B&M let me PM and then took off $20 coupon. $49.99 plus tax will be final price after rebate. I did have the Staples receipt AND I hauled in Maxtor HD from Staples just in case they wanted to deny based on model number...

edit: Drive from OD was a D740X-6L. Had ATA133 sticker on box, this has the fluid bearings...works great and is fast. No noise problems, yet

<< Drive from OD was a D740X-6L. Had ATA133 sticker on box, this has the fluid bearings... >>

I believe you are wrong: Both 740's are 133, and it's the SECOND letter that must be L.

6L060L3 == Fluid Dynamic Bearing; 6L060J3 == regular

Both are fine drives, however....

FYI. BB considers the GC and Rebate as both rebate. In the Terms and Conditions it both says "Limit of one rebate per household or address." Looks like you have to choose one or the other.

That means that you can only send one rebate with this promotion number, not that you can't get rebate and GC. Considering how many items are sold with more than one rebate (and obviously advertised this way), they can't really reject it on this clause.

What I find annoying is when they conceal real promotion numbers. Sometimes they have what looks like the same promotion, but from a different stores (like WD offering $75 rebate on the same drive at both Best Buy and CompUSA). Different promotion numbers usually, but seemingly the same deal. I never know if I can send the rebate or if they'll say "no, did this one already" and reject it.

<< Just scored one from Office Depot for $49.99 AR. 😀

How did you get it down to $49.99?

I got this drive at BB price matching to Staples for $99.99. Both the rebate and the gift card rebate printed out, and they gave them to me. Some people aren't getting the rebate slips, but that is ok as you can print them out off of BestBuys website. Look for the box that has a sticker saying"Feed the need for speed with Ultra ATA/133" on the front and you will find a D740X drive inside model #6L060J3 so it isn't the new fluid bearing drive, but still an excellent drive at a great price!

First I ordered the Maxtor drive from the web site with "pick up" at store. Payment option - "cash". I used a $20 off $75 coupon which you could find quite easily.

$119.99 - $20.00 coupon = $99.99 + tax.

Go to Staples.com, click on "In Store" special (lower left hand side of the first page) - computer. You should see the Maxtor for sale at $99.99. Add item to "list". Then print list. You are suppose to take this list to a Staples B & M to get the Maxtor at $99.99. But I took it with me to Office Depost to pick up my order. At the Office Depot, I showed them the Staples' price and PM the $119.99 to Staples' $99.99. Therefore:

$119.99 - $20.00 coupon - $20.00 PM = $79.99 + tax.

Once the order was entered and paid for, the cash register printed a rebate receipt of $30.00. So,

$119.99 - $20.00 coupon - $20.00 PM - $30.00 rebate = $49.99 + Tax + .34 stamp

The manager may give you a line that "Office Depot does not price match online prices." But remember, the Staples Maxtor price is for "In Store". So Office Depot has to PM.

This deal is good till March 9.

Hope this helps.

Well gee, how do you know what s/n I have? My product number is : 6L040L2. Which is an ATA133, fluid bearing, 40gig Maxtor. Note that I got this from OD (that's Office Depot). What made you think that only the J's were available?

update these hard drives are no longer $99.99 at staples. intime could you please upload a scan of the "list" from staples.
