Maxtor 40Gb 5400 Clearanced @ staples for $39.90 No rebate hassels YMMV

Was just in to look for the 2wire units and local store had Maxtor 40Gb ATA 100 retail boxes clearanced at $39.90. Thought the guy in front of me snagged the last 2 but there were a couple left in the glass clearance case off to the side.

Heads up to those looking for cheap drives, the clerk said they had just repriced them (the tag in the second clearance case was ~$80 something)

I should also mention "NO REBATE HASSLES" or else some of the bigger drives currently listed would probably be better deals.

**Edit** added 'No rebate hassels' to Title per suggestion.

Thanks and I agree the no rebate hassle makes this quite appealing.

Anyone have the Staples SKU for this HD?

Nice find. Not dealing with rebates is great.

caljr, you might want to edit the title to reflect the fact that no rebates are needed. 🙂
I almost passed over this thread cause I thought it was a repost.

Found two on the self at lunch at the Hulen store in Fort Worth. Bought one and left one. Meets my $1/gb threshold.

They had 2 of these on the shelves at the Lennox - Staples in Columbus, OH, but they were still the regular price of $79.99.

Bummer!

Found mine for 39.90. Screw Best Buy and their pm lies, < $1/gb w/no rebate is good in my book any day. Also picked up a Memorex 600x1200 scanner for $20 down from $80 and a webcam for 9.95 AR down from 40.00. Staples made my day!

I saw it at one of my local stores last night. Only one left on the shelf. I was not interested. Otherwise, I would buy it.

😎 Got the last 3 of 'em near Atlanta (Duluth). Manager wouldn't accept my $10 OfficeMax discount card though. However, there was a sticker on each box that promised a free Product & Replacement warranty if it wasn't offered at the time of the purchase...got 3 of those too. 😉

...Which means you call up Staples in 1 year, tell them your drives "broke" and get your money back.....FREE MAXTOR HARD DRIVES!!!🙂

Im prolly gonna check out what they have at my local staples since their yearly sale is going on now i think. I allready spent over 100 bucks on clearance stuff online.

got 2 of these last night at 2 different Staples in Long Island, NY.
These stores are about 5 miles apart.
First one rang up at 39.90.
The second store rang it up at 79.90.
Customer Service took a look at my receipt and gave me the 2nd for the same price as the 1st.
Not bad overall.

Can someone verify this is a nationwide Staples Clearance.

My local Staples has them in stock but when scanned, they come up at $79.95

I'm in Pennsylvania

Edit: I don't see them online anymore. What is the SKU/Item ?

Thanks, but I couldn't get same price at my place. Would someone scan the receive please? Thanks.

I would have PMed you this tidbit of advice, Fishsocks, but since you don't have PMs enabled... coupon codes are a no no. Edit it before the mods jump in!

My staples is pretty lame.

They have the Maxtor 20GB 5400 rpm on the Clearnce rack for $69.90! :Q

Even funnier, right there, they have it marked: "orinial price: $69.98, now on clearance! $69.90"

Just to verify I had her scan the drive, and it was $69.90.

Wow, on the clerance rack and it's a whopping 8 cents off the regular price. Way to get rid of that inventory.
