Also - by purchasing the Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM drive along with the Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI Adapter Card, you qualify for a $50 rebate from Maxtor thereby making the adapter card free. You just have to purchase the drive and adapter card by March 31, 2001.

I tried PMing it with the drive on Newegg.com but the CSR I spoke with said it was a refurbished drive and that they couldn't PM with it. Anyone else gotten that or is it BS and I should try again?

Thanks,

You just got a stupid CSR. Call them back and try again. I seem to always find a nice one on the first try so far.

Combining i20west's original deal with his second idea on the maxtor controller card:

40GB 7200 RPM drive for $179.95 PM'ed with Office Depot for $159.99
+ Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI Adapter Card from staples for +$49.98
-------
$209.97
-------
- Staples $40 off $200 coupon -$40.00
- $50 rebate from Maxtor -$50.00
-------
$119.97
+ your local tax + tax

Then you can always unload the controller for $20~$30 later if you don't want it.
What do you think? Be nice, it's my first post.

I'd still try to PM with Newegg for $145 ($135+$10 shipping). Then add the Ultra ATA100 controller for $49.99, add something else for another $5 or so to bring total just over $200, then use the $40 off $200 coupon. You end up paying about $160+tax. Then get the $50 Maxtor rebate and you're still ahead of the game. ;)

This is probably a silly question. I want to get in on this deal. I've never ordered anything from staples over the phone. What is their phone number to order? I can't seem to find a number to place orders on their website.

hi guys....how do you get them to apply the coupon codes? They ask me where I got the code from and I said "in the mail." and they then said that ehy couldn't apply it because it was sent out "in a certain way"?!@!?% Please help with any suggestions, as without the PM and coupon it is a COLD deal! thanks

MoMoney, you will have a hard time getting a Pricematch there as it is an OEM drive. The one Staples has it a retail drive.

Regarding the coupon, try telling them that you received it in a special email from Staples.

When I ordered my drive, I had no problems with using the coupon (I actually naively told the rep it came from bigbigsavings! But when my drive didn't show up Friday like it was supposed to, and I called to complain I got a CS rep that told me I shouldn't have been allowed to use the coupon in the first place. She told me something about an email they send out with the coupon codes, so that's why I'm assuming that you should tell them email.

Regarding the price - as others have mentioned - if you just PM with Office Depot (which is selling the retail version for 159.99), buy the ATA adapter for $49.99 at the same time, your total price will be roughly $210. Take off $40 for the $40 off $200 Staples coupon + free shipping and the $50 MIR from Maxtor and your total price is $120 + tax for the drive and adapter.

ctk9090 ::

oems usually come in a white generic box without mounting screws, ide cables, and sometimes manuals.

Got an update for you guys. Staples sent me a 45gig drive instead of the 40gig. Box is marked with a sticker 5gig free. Must be 15gig platters, but that does not matter to me. 5 more gigs is good!
