Just found this board yesterday and I'm already saving money! I just took advantage of the following deal and wanted to pass it along.

Staples has the Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM drive for $179.95. Office Depot has it for $159.99. Use the price match to get Staples to drop their price to 159.99 and then use the $30 + free shipping coupon to drop the total price to $129.99.

Is the OD price a sale, or is that the everyday price (IE would I be able to get this next week?)

Thanks for the post, except I tried calling Staples.com, and all they told me was that they had the Maxtor kit, which after the $30 rebate/coupon was $159.95, which is cheaper, as the CSR told me, than OD's $159.99. Hmmm... anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

P.S. My first post ever. Great deals on here! :D

Yeah, you ran into an @sshole staples clerk, or you weren't persistent enough. The first time you PM something, regardless of how amazingly, obviously legitimate a PM it is, they will try to come up with some sort of excuse, like "well, if I smack you in the face, the $197 looks more like $179, so our's actually IS cheaper!" They'll almost always turn you down the first time.

Except for one weird experience I had at Home depot where I was buying some MDF, and I wanted to buy four 2x4' sheets at the price of 1 4x8' sheet, since their saw was broken at the store, and the manager wouldn't do it, but the wood guy wrote it up and handed me the deal anyways!

I just called Staples back, and they finally gave me the pricematch, except it turns out that the rebate that's advertised right below the drive, isn't actually for that drive, but for the 20GB 5400rpm drive, and it's $20, not $30. I complained about it, but they gave the "we're not resposible for typographical errors on our website" argument. So I don't know what $30-off coupon there is or where to find it. Anybody know? Thanks!

P.S. For what it's worth, the 20 gig drive is $99, so with the rebate you can get it for $79, if you're willing to settle for 5400 rpm that is.

ccellist, what you have to do is go to techbargains.c0m and look for the coupon codes in the right-hand column towards the bottom of the page. You could probably even call back and add it to the order.

Staples always charges tax, because of something about their presence in all 50 states.

The deal with the 20 GB drive was a few weeks back. As follows... $99.99 (drive) + $.99 (Pencils) - $30 (coupon) - $20 (rebate) = $50.00 for the drive. However, possibly, some people were able to get the on-line staples store to match the B&M stores which had the price at $79.99 during that week, which may have yielded a 20 GB Maxtor for $29.99 (after all rebates, price matches and coupons).

Well, folks, it's actually better to buy the drive from Newegg. The Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm drive is available for $135 + $10 Fed Ex shipping from them. Do a PM with Staples, apply the $30 coupon, and you'll end up paying only $115 + tax.

the newegg drive is 135 + 10 shipping and it is and oem drive

Dang not fast enough

wait i got it figured out

135 + 10 (shipping) - 20(come to less than 150 so you have to use the 20$ coupon)= 125

129.99 - 125.00 = 4.95 * 1.085(tax in texas) = 5.37 savings

a good saving if I had waited but to me its not worth the hassel to call them back

but any hoo its still a great find.

The Newegg drive is the same as the one from Staples. Depending on the CSR, this should not be a problem.

NO, the 30GB 5400rpm for $99 is not a good deal. Newegg has that one for $98 + $10 shipping. Do a PM with Staples, apply $20 off $100 coupon from Ableshoppers and you end up paying just $88 + tax, shipped right to your door step. It sure beats driving out to the B&M. This is how I always shop!

;) If it ain't cheap, it ain't worth my time. ;)
