Special over at NewEgg.com. They don't give very much info about it, but this looks like a little better deal than this one. Free shipping and no tax if you your out of state. I'd pick one up but I'm a little low on fundz.

Never heard of this place before. Does anyone who has ordered from there have anything to say about them?

It may be 5400rpm, BUT the size of that drive means it will have a higher areal plate density, and therefore reads/writes more data each time it passes over the area, as there is more data in each inch. Even though it is spinning slower, it covers more data with each spin, so it is still fast. Don't be scared; see for yourself 😀.

I recently bought the Radeon LE from Newegg.com it shipped the same day I ordered it and it arrived three days later. No problems WHATSOEVER! Good reliable company as far as I am concerned.

if nothing else.. it's a lot of real estate CHEAP and i have not heard anything bad about newegg since the radeon deal started.. i'd assume it safe to buy from em

Just ordered a Iwill motherboard from them yesterday. Got email right away concerning order. About an hour later got email it was shipped with tracking number. Very good so far!

Nice price for 40GB, but wish someone could find a similar deal on the 7200RPM 20GB/platter Maxtor (5T040H4) 40GB DiamondMax Plus 60.

The lowest I've found is $139-$145. Well, $25-30 more is not that bad.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I recently sent in my 45GB Maxtor because it was having problems. Since they stopped using 15GB platters, they sent me a 60GB hard drive!! Just my way of saying that their service is excellent!

damn, I want one of these for my RAID setup.
damn - money, money, where are you ?

anybody who'd be interested in a Quantum Fireball Plus KX (20g 7200rpm ata66) I'd be interested in one of these drives, shoot me a PM or an email

nice price, newegg is a good vendor to buy from.

i bought a burner from them. no problem whatsoever.

GoldenTiger,
So it's a "faster" 5400rpm, but just how fast is "THIS" 5400 compared to a 7200 40GB?
And is this faster 5400 drive fast enough for DV editing?

actually, i think pcworld rated this drive faster then alot of 7200 rpm drives, Someone correct me if Im wong but I think I read that

Well, to put it bluntly, if this is the same HD as PC World reviewed, then it kicks arse. It's faster than a few 7200 RPM drives, and performs similarly to a couple more 7200s. I'm not sure if I'm infringing any protocol by doing this, but here is the graph that shows the side by side comparisons of the drives:

PC World Livin' Large hard drive show down

Hope that helps at least one person. 🙂

Wow. That Diamondmax VL40 is good for a 5400. I looked at the graph, it's amazing. But how? How could this 5400 drive beat some 7200 drives?

And is this drive at newegg.com really the Diamondmax VL40 model?
