Why not get a good hard drive instead of the MaxCrap? Buy.com has a Quantum 30gb, 7200rpm drive for $186 and there is a $30 rebate. Cheaper and better.

I have both drives, a Quantum Fireball LM and a Maxtor plus 40, and they're the same to me. I think Maxtor is better because of their no hassle warranty. Just MHO.

OK, BB also has the Maxtor 15gig plus 40 HD on sale for $99.99...OD has this for $129. Pricematch this with their 155% guarantee and you have a HD for peanuts. I went to my local OD this afternoon and got the last one on display for a PM tomorrow. Nice deal IMHO.

I upgraded to a 7200 rpm from a 5400 rpm awhile ago, but didn't really notice much of a speed increase. Is it supposed to be really that noticeable?

I have the Maxtor Diamond Max Plus 40 30GB hard drive and it totally rocks. I got it a few months ago at CompUSA for $199. At the time it was a pretty good deal. The drive is great. There is a noticeable difference between 7200rpm and 5400rpm. It's ATA66 or UDMA66 that is a rip off. That is only saying the cache has a burst speed of 66 mb/s. There is less than 5% difference between the normal drives. Fortunately most large capacity hard drives (namely good quality) have at least 2MB of cache and if you have a new motherboard you might realize the potential, but it's not really a great selling point from a tech stand point. Good luck. It's a great price on arguably one of the best IDE hard drives ever made. Also the Maxtor warranty is sweet, you get an advance replacement for a defective drive. That's a benefit of a top class corporation.

a better deal is the compgeeks diamondmax 60 45 gig for $189. Sure its not 7200rpm. But the areal density is 50% higher at 15 gigs instead of 10 gigs per platter which makes up for it. Also its got 15 more gigs

My friend just bought a 20gig maxtor at staples...He swears there is a $30 rebate from maxtor on it right now and that he has the rebate form....I told him I could not find it on their site...He said it's good through August and will give me a copy tomorrow....I don't know if it's just for the 20 gig drive or what....
