Good deal !! $1 per GHz !! (hehehe $1/Gigabyte)
I ordered mine yesterday before I leave work, I got the comfirmation email immediately after ordering, I printed out everything and left work to pick it up, it says it will be ready for pick up after 4 hours on the order form, but I said I will give it try since OD is on my way home .. I picked it up without problems!!
I don't know if the print out from the order along with the email comfirmation will be as good as a receipt to send for the rebate !?
Then I went home to install it ! that was a real pain ! I pull out my old drive and put in the new drive as "cable select" master, reboted the PC with the MaxBlast Plus II floppy and CD in, I tried to follow the instructions in the book to format the drive, but the software that came out was totally different than what it says in the book !! it was a dos based program and did not give me the option to select a format for XP. So I put my old drive back, went online and downloaded the MaxBlast Plus II from maxtor website, even thought the floopy is supposed to have the same version (1.3) but when I booted the PC with the one I downloaded, it was the right program and let me format the drive as NTFS, what's strange is that it took less than a second to do that ! I put it as a second drive with my IBM drive and booted my PC to make sure it did format it befrore I install XP it, and I was able to see it in explorer as a formated NTFS drive !! so now I took my old drive out, rebooted the PC with "boot from CD" in my BIOS selected with win XP pro CD in the CD ROM, but I got a message telling me NTLDR is missing ! so once again back to my old drive >>I downloded the XP boot floppy from bootdisks, and rebooted the PC with the floopy and win XP CD, I followed the instruction, by going to 386i folder and typing winnt.exe, but it says could not find a place to put the swap file ! this is when I gave up ! I don't know what I'm doing wrong !
The only thing I can think of is to reformat the drive as FAT32 so it will be recognized in DOS, install XP, then change it to NTFS after the install is done !
The drive is super quiet but that does not do me any good, till I get a quiet pentium IV !
The drive does generate way more heat than my IBM, when I touched it after few minutes it felt like 45-50C !! The IBM stayed cool. Maybe it's because of that liquid bearing thing !
Good luck getting one guys !! maybe I will get another one for a new RAID configuration system !! I don't know if I can send the rebate again for the same addredd and name !
