Newegg's is SATA II, I don't believe the Amazon deal is. I believe it's plain old SATA.

This drive I don't think comes in more than one model...tehy are all SATA II I believe

I called Maxtor and was told by tech support that they are the same exact drive. He said the L01S300 should ship with a controller, but wasn't sure.

The 16mb and/or however they designed this drive does make a difference. I bought the 250mb version recently, and have 7 various drives in my comp, the maxtor III blows them all away in speed except for the raptor, which is faster then the maxtor, but the raptor is 10krpm.
