CompUSA has the Maxtor Ultra Series 250Gig with 8MB cache drive in the Sunday paper for $179-$30MIR=$149!

Here's the link to the online product, although it says Sold Out! There were plenty of these at stores close to me as of late afternoon, Sunday.

All the boxes in the stores I went to included a Free Maxtor SATA/150 + Ultra ATA/133 Combo PCI Card inside the box!

For those who don't like CompUSA's rebate center in NY, this rebate goes to Maxtor in Miami, FL.

Wow $118 would be amazing... I don't think they'll PM an OOS product though. YMMV with a super-nice rep.

Don't forget many of these drivers have a free Maxtor T-shirt :)

Do these drives have a 3 YR warranty? I cannot find anything on maxtor site, everything there indicates a one year warranty.

Strangely enough, retail drives have 1 year warranty whereas OEM drives get 3 year.

Sahakiel, that's WD's policy. Maxtor's is >=120GB has 3yr, <120GB has 1yr.

It's 1 year, which sucks for a drive of this capacity, rotation speed and cache. You'd think a decent manufacturer would offer a 3 year warranty on them, but they don't. :disgust: I wish I'd known this when I bought mine a few weeks ago.

EDIT: well, it COULD be 3 years... my drive expires January 2006, but the clock starts ticking the day you BUY the drive, not when it was manufactured. :confused: The Maxtor rep said that some of the earlier retail kits had 3 year warranties, newer ones likely have 1 year warranties.

I wish the standards hadn't dropped so much recently. It was nice knowing all ATA were 3 and SCSI were 5. :(

Here's a good one. I saved the HTML product info page for this drive when I ordered it, and at that time, it said 3yr warranty. Now, it says 1yr warranty.

http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/service/warranty/faq.htm says the 8MB buffer drives >= 120GB have a 3yr warranty.

I'll check my serial number when the drive arrives. If it doesn't come up as 3yr, it's going back...

Thanks for the post. I picked up a couple of them with the ATA card in the box. I had to go to 2 different Comp's to get the box with the card. The first store had several without the card. The second had only 1 drive in the returns basket, unopened. I was told that the rebate would only be valid for one of the drives. So with tax the total for 2 drives was $387.27 minus whatever rebate I can get. Still not bad for 500 GB.

Based on the Maxtor FAQ it has 3 year warranty, below:

'Maxtor DiamondMax Plus ATA drives that have an 8MB cache buffer AND capacities of 120GB or greater will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 3 years. All other DiamondMax Plus drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year.'

Linky

Update: The paper work inside the box states 1 year limited warranty.

I enterd my serial number for my 250GB drive bghtat CompUsa at the url below, came up expires 2/9/05. Since it's more than 1 year, I'd say 3 year warranty, since starts on purchase date.

I'm sorry - it is at CompUSA. That is what the thread is about so I didn't think there would be a problem adding the today price.

Only reason I ask is because there is talk of pricematching to Staples ;)
