Meh. Tempting but after having a 160GB maxtor die on me 4 months ago and the "refurb" warranty replacement starting to act the same way (major drive noise, "grinding" practically) as the dead drive I don't have much interest in buying another maxtor for awhile.

i use to buy almost exclusively maxtor drives since they were usually the cheapest.
i've had 4 maxtor's fail on me in the past year. :)
i'm going seagate now, don't know if they're much more reliable, but 5yr warranty vs. 1... :)

Got my two drives.

GOOD: One of the drives was a 16MB cache model.

BAD: The two drives were in a large Staples branded box with absolutely NO padding. Zero. Zip. Nada. It was delivered by a Staples driver, not by UPS/FedEx, so they may or may not have taken care to not toss it around. I'll find out soon if the drives are fine.

edit... I had ordered these online.

also has seagate 160 for $69 w/ rebate + shipping (and sata for same)
and the seagate 80g for $19 w/ rebate + shipping

Yes, but they take forever. My last Seagate rebate took about five months, the longest I've ever had to wait for any rebate.

Thats nothing. I've had a rebate check show up 5 years later. A 16X CD burner.

I recently had a rebate show up for a Logitech Dual Optical Mouse I purchased in 2001!! They don't even make them anymore, infact they were discontinued in 2002. Took 4 years exactly (purchased in June 2001...)

Wish I could go back to then and buy more, they're tough to find and excellent comfy mice.
