One of my samsung 80gb hd's in raid 0 just died. Ordered 2 maxtor 250gb 16mb cache sata2 drives. Anyone one know if they're any good?? Read some reviews on them and they seem to be pretty fast. Needed more space than raptors can provide and didn't want to spend the extra $$.

Should be speedy drives. Me personally, I don't trust the company's hardware as far as I can throw their hard drives. I had some Maxtor's a while back, and they were so loud, it was horrible. I sold them, and I've stuck with Western Digital hd's until I went to SATA, which I went to Hitachi...
Tas.

i have the IDE version of that drive and have been running it for close to 6 months or so with no troubles at all. very fast for me and as for quiet i can't say for sure as i overclock and have big noisy fan on CPU so i can't say for sure there

edit- i just rebooted and put ear close to drive ( no case on PC as i overclock and have the case off with house fan blowing on motherboard ) and it is quiet and fast with good access times also. windows loads pretty fast for me, running WINXP with service pack 2 and 1 GIG of pc3500 memory

I have the PATA version for a little over a month now and it's plenty fast and for the most part quiet. Unless I'm mistaken, mine's a one year warranty, but I've had good luck with Maxtors.

I thought they were 3 year warranties.....5 would be better though :)

Yeah, I just got my X2 4400+ and the 2gigs of corsair just to have one of my REFURBISHED samsungs :disgust: take a huge dump on me.

Just in time for the holiday weekend. It's ok cause I'm workin' anyway.

I have the PATA version. I'm pretty satisfied with it. By far, the fastest PATA drive I've used to date and speaking for myself, the speed in performance is very noticable over all the other 8mb cache drives I have (WD, Seagate, and Maxtor).

Beg to differ gents on that warranty. Looking at the retail box version I just picked up at Staples. 1 year warranty. Go figure, if you buy the oem version it is 3 yrs. Back to Staples they go.

I think its a decent drive if you dont mind the history of issues maxtor had with their drives.
Im sure they have improved by now

I'm taking a risk now with a 300 GB 16 MB cache myself

I just got a 300GB 16MB cache Maxtor. The drive is loud, much louder than any of my other drives. It also seems to be much slower than the 200GB Seagate it replaced. The 1 year warranty is another "con" against the drive.

I only hear the drive when I first turn my computer on, makes a funny noise almost like a delay before spinning up but then after that I don't notice it at all.
