Sounds great..... Now where the heck do you get it? I think you missed the most important part!

30 day warranty vs an extra 30-35 bucks for a 3 year warranty and brand new drive... hmm. No contest here. New drive wins.

What is a refurb drive? My guess is that it isn't a "broken" drive thats fixed, just a returned drive that may or may not have been tested. If tested maybe hot, if not tested and you have to pay shipping etc to return then sucks. 3 year warranty is nice, but in 3 years TB drives will be 50 cents and sold in vending machines at grocery stores.

While Newegg is warranting for only 30 days, this doesn't mean the other warranty is no good. It depends on how the manufacturer deals with OEM drives. If they allow consumers to deal directly with them, the manufacturer, like Maxtor did last time I tried, you can get the full warranty. I suggest you run the serial number right after you get the refurb. If it says you have warranty, great, if not, take a gamble or send back.

I don't think Newegg are really refurbs, at least most of them. A better term would be customer returns. Sometimes these returns have never even been used and are sent back because of buyers remorse. That being said, some are actual refurbs. If you see the disclaimer about the warranty only being good through the manufacturer, especially with motherboards, these might be actual barebone refurbs.
