Maxtor 160GB or WD 120GB

Folks,

Looking for some guidence here. Looking to get a big drive to last me a
while.

Two options:

WD 1200JB - 120GB, 8MB cache, 7200 spindle speed, ATA100.

or

Mator DiamondMax - 160GB, 2MB cache, 5400 spindle speed, ATA133

Both are relatively cheap. Is a 40GB difference worth the performance loss? Is the difference in performance really going to be noticible? Has anyone seen a review of the Maxtor 160GB on the web anywhere?

I know this question is really just a matter of opinion, but what would you do?

Thanks,
Brian

The HDD is the bottleneck in most systems. I would go with the WD "JB" drive for performance reasons. In addition 120GB is still a lot of storage capacity.

I got the 120 wd because i had some bb gift card and they had a 150 rebate bring mine to like 60 bucks.. still haven't used it all up... only like 30 gig of it..
depending on your mobo, you may need a ata/133 controller if you dont already have one since ata/133 goes over 120gb limitation ? or 130gb limitation ? I like 7200rpm anyway 🙂

I have a 1200JB here, I love it.

5400 RPM drives are great for storage or backing up large amounts of data, but for a fast, responsive system you'll want the WD.
