I too have been denied, Staples calimed they have contacted CompUSA and said that they were all sold out, so they wouldnt price match, plus my local Staples was too anal to do the pricematch to $99, they would only PM to $170. Atleast I did grab a HD from CompUSA on Monday, but after reading these posts I thought I could grab another for $99 (atleast) w/o a MIR to wait on. D:

I just got back from Staples and picked up my drive for $96.96 after the 110% pricematch, they wouldn't let me use the coupon since it was a pricematch.

Basically I had spent about 30 min on the phone earlier in the day with a CSR who after agreeing to pricematch found it was out of stock at Staples. I asked about the local stores and she had me on hold again and said the local store would do it and put one on hold for me.

No rumor, they do come with the cards.

I just got another call from a Staples rep asking if I wanted the 160gb drive that I had them pricematch online. At first, I wasn't gonna get it but for 87 dollars after PM/coupon I get a 160gb drive, ata controller, and some canned air.

Does there have to be a local CompUSA in your area too for them to price match to their
price? I only have Best Buy, Circuit City, Staples, OM, and Office Depot.

No, but its going to be tught to get a PM if your local Staples follow their PM policy to a "T".

As of 6 PM EST, I was even unable to call in (the 18003STAPLE) to get a phone order, I think they red flagged that product number.

I believe so.

Would it be possible to just bring in the paperwork and argue over it at a b&m, or should I phone in an order or do it online? The Staples in town does not carry the 160, but I will be near another one tomorrow. Hoping to get in on this deal, since I can't get in on the earlier wd 120 gig deal. :D

I'm 0 for 3 on this deal. 1st store only had 80s, second gave me the "It says MFG rebate on the ad, so it's probably in the box or on Maxtor's website" and the 3rd store gave me the "We PM before rebates, unless it's in our best interest to PM after rebate". I give up. I only needed a 120 anyways, so guess I'll wait for the next deal.

Compusa here in chicago (skokie, 60077) has at least 50 of these on hand as of a few hours ago).

I suspect compusa will be having another promo on this drive for next week as well.

Even at $100 AR (119 to be exact after tax), 75¢/gig is not a bad deal.

It's unclear, these drives come with a 3yr or a 1yr. Maxtor's site says that all 120G + with 8 mb have 3 yr now, but their clause for retail packages is unclear.

NOPE.. their clause for Retail Packages is very clear and why I am upset with them....

Maxtor drives are quieter at idle than WD drives. All of my WD drives have a high pitch that I can hear and it bothers me.... BUT Maxtor no longer sells a Retail drive with a 3 year warranty.

In EMEA, Maxtor-branded retail ATA hard drive kits will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 2 years regardless of capacity or buffer size. Maxtor external hard drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 2 years.

Outside of EMEA, Maxtor-branded retail ATA hard drive kits will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year regardless of capacity or buffer size. Maxtor external hard drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year with the exception of the Maxtor Personal Storage 3000LS drive, which has a Standard Warranty Period of 90 days.

EMEA = european, middle east, & africa (emea)

So, any retail maxtor hard drive purchased "Outside of european, middle east, & africa (emea)" countries only carries a one year warranty and some only carry a 90 day warranty... Please stop buying their hard drives until they change this policy.

So which drives carry the 3 yr warranty?

--------------
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus ATA drives that have an 8MB cache buffer AND capacities of 120GB or greater will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 3 years. All other DiamondMax Plus drives will carry a Standard Warranty Period of 1 year. Note, however, that Maxtor-branded ATA retail hard drive kits carry a different Standard Warranty Period. See below for details.

I wish I could tell you without any doubt. As I stated above though... inside EMEA is a 2 year warranty for retail and outside EMEA is a one year warranty.

I am totally new here. If this is not on topic or whatever I am teachable. My question from this thread is how do you request/acquire a PM online at Staples. I would like the HD baadd!

look at Nasshi's post on the previous page. he details exactly what to do with the call in #. I did it yesterday and worked on the first try. Looks like you might have some trouble with them today though. Good luck. its an awesome deal. She originally quoted me the delivery date of 6/19, but it has since changed to 6/2 (this monday :) ).

Awesome deal.

Make sure you all get the Staples rebate, which makes this drive free after rebate. Rebate starts tomorrow. :)

Does it also take a clueless store manager to get the rebate retroactively with a return/rebuy?

Because none of my local Staples has a manager willing to eat the loss on these by PM'ing to the AR price.
