For those who hate rebates, Staples will be selling a 160GB Maxtor drive for $79.94 out the door. No Rebates involved.

Sale starts Sunday 9/12 and runs through Saturday 9/25.

Meets the $0.50/GB requirement.

Look in e-mail for $15 off $75 or more purchase coupon which would bring it down to $64.94 +tax with no rebates. Not too shabby.

HOw quiet are these drives ? I have a MAxtor 120 gig and I swear it's the only thing in my system besides the power supply that produces an audible sound. Are these relatively dead silent (no hum...)?

Wow. Is it still possible to sign up on the email list to get that coupon? I can't find a link on the site to sign up for anything.

i cant seem to get this work online, when i try to add 2 coupons together, it increased my minimal purchase amount to 189.94

WTF! :|

Just picked me up one at the Chattanooga, Hixson area Staples. When the cashier scanned the coupon, it said it had already been redeemed. The manager said wait a sec. He went to the back and came back with a 15 off of 75 coupon. Told the cashier to use it. Very nice folks there.

Sick! Is that code for the coupon availible online still.... or is that part of some kind of Staples club? I've only been to officemax lately lol.

If there were more managers around like this, that actually wanted your business instead of looking for ways out of honoring coupons or PMs or whatever, some store chains would be doing a lot more business.

maxtors=one of loudest, at least from prior experiences on the 40,60,80gb models.

Not sure if you've tried the current drives or not but they are very quiet. Western Digital is the loser for noise - Seagates and Maxtors are both good.

Western Digital is louder than Maxtor, especially since Maxtor moved all their drives to FDB.

Bought 2 for $130.

I have Maxtor 80, 120, and 160 and none of them are louder than my fans which aren't that loud. I put a 120 in my tivo and it is quiet too.

FYI I don't remember if it is on the cd that comes with the drive but you can download a utility to make the drive even quieter at the sacrifice of some speed. I used it on my tivo drive. I don't know if I can tell a difference though.
