I went a different route. I printed out the purchase form from Staples with a $30 of $150 coupon.

Staples price $149.98.
$30 off $150 coupon.

for a total of $119.98.

I brought this to the local OD and spoke to the manager. At first he was reluctant to PM the "on-line" coupon, but then said yes. Didn't even ask about the .02 cents short on the Staples coupon (I had entered two pencils on the Staples form for .98 cents).

At any rate, out the door for 119.98 + tax. Now I'll send in the $50 rebate for an end total of $79.28 (with tax)!

Three year warranty as well.

i too used staples print out for 149.99 on drive.

office depot pmed

used 2 30 off 150.00 coupons. one for wife and one for me.

119 + tax on drives.

50.00 mail in rebate.

for what its worth. OD has 158.84 in price computer .... made that 8.54 pm to staples more believable.

what a deal ...

two 120gb 8mb drives for 160. with tax after rebates.

FYI, both my drives say 3 yr warranty on the box. even though both drives have same sku...they are diff packages. one is longer.

thanks fw for a great storage deal.

OT: i have a wd120 8mb se drive that crapped this month. knocking a head or something. It came from dell oem peripherals....what is the procedure to replace this cause wd says it has warranty till mar 2005???? If anyone has a method of contacting dell other than talking to drones let me know. They keep asking for a system tag # if anyone can help msg me. I dont own any dell computers.

It's 3 day delivery in my area (L. A.) so I couldn't do the in-store pick-up. What I did was order for home delivery used the $25 off $75 coupon. I will call up later and have the CSR PM the Staples.com price of $149.98 (item #499950).

Maxtor 120GB Drive w/ 8MB $168.78 - $25 coupon - $18.76 PM to Staples - $50 MIR = $74.98 + taxes

uhm...mine's a new-style retail box says 1 yr on the outside..thought it over..ran the digits on the actual drive..and Maxtor's warranty utility says..
In Warranty - expiration date: 5/9/04
funny how some 8mb cache drives are 3yr and some are going to be 1yr ...

new style box and a ymmv as the '100GB+20GB free' CompUSA/BB/Staples crowd can attest to ;)
picture with woman: 3 yr warranty
old style box :)

hence my statement of some will be 1yr ..some will be 3yr..

Sweet deal! I filled out the order online, applied the coupon, and chose in-store pickup. About 2 hours later I drive to Office Depot and pick up the drive. The drive rung up as 158.84 but the $25 coupon was not automatically applied. I thought I was screwed because I didn't have the coupon code with me. But they were awesome and just applied some generic 99999 coupon code and set the discount to $25. So I got it with no hassles!

This drive is replacing the two noisy 60GB drives in my TiVo. The fluid bearing motor is quiet plus I use that acoustic management software and set the drive to "quiet" mode. What a difference.

So if you break down, do I get a new unit or just a refurbed one? I'm thinking of trading up, because my current woman didn't come with a warranty. :):p

Looks like the deal is still there and I happen to be searching for a hard drive.

Everyone addresses in this thread how to get it a few bucks cheaper.

How about:

Is this a good hard drive??????

Storage review rates it as slower than the westerndigital, how is this drive working in real life for you guys that have already picked it up?

Thanks!!!!

I just bought this with in store pickup about an hour ago :)

I'll be picking mine up tomorrow morning.

Ordered through eBates.com which added a $20 off $75 coupon to my cart and saved me 2%.

Good drive? Yes... Worth the money? Absolutely... But as you said, storagereview.com, reports that it's not as good as the WD1200JB Special Ed. (w/8MB buffer) and they know their stuff.

Ok I just got back from OD B&M

If you choose in store pickup make sure to bring with you either:
Your e-mail order confirmation or web page order confirmation AND credit card.
or
Your state issued ID (drivers license) AND credit card.

I called OD B&M last night and asked if the hard drive had a 1 or 3 warranty, the guy said 3 years so I had assumed that ALL of them had 3 years, nope. I was about 6 blocks away from OD when I looked carefully at the hard drive and it said 1 year. So I debated going back or just keeping it. I went back to OD, they opened the display where the other 2 120GB HD's were, only ONE hard drive had the new gold/bronze sticker in the lower right which reads:

20% FASTER
Maxtor Ultra Series
8MB Cache 7200 RPM
Ultra Fast 4x the Cache
Ultra Performance ATA/133
Ultra Quiet FDB Motor

On the lower printed printed on the actual red box is states "3-year warranty". I'm glad that I went back and got the 3 year box.

Here's the info from the OD sticker (which partially covers the Maxtor UPC):
678808
STR: 0645
Maxtor Corporation
120GB 7200 RPM, 8MB Cache
PO: From Stock Ship Date: 03/28/03
UPC: 7-51921-02809-2
BO#L 37817-001
WHSE#: 06467
LOP120 EAC
1X 0702
2 of 2
E015 C K R22

Hope this helps :)

Tried to get this deal today, and they PM'd Staples, but wouldn't give me the $25 off $75 using just the code. Said I needed the coupon to scan. Bigbillfold doesn't seem to have the $25 (or any now) printable coupons.

I was hoping to try again this morning to get this deal. Are any of you using coupons at the B&M? How?

Great deal! Rebate is valid through 4/5/03, so don't wait too long...

Have to haggle for the pricematch... for some reason, the price changed to $158 in my online cart at the end of the checkout process...

Is there no way to use the coupon in store (to be able to get the PM to staples $150)? Must you order online at $158 to use coupon?

I was able to get the deal last night (PM to staples, $25 coupon), but got lucky I think. It was the second store I'd been to and both said I needed the real coupon w/ bar code to scan. Cashier asked supervisor who asked store mgr. Supervisor said if the register took the code I had, they would do it, but weren't supposed w/out actual coupon. Register didn't take code, but luckily she was being pretty nice and told the cashier how to over ride it (entering all zeros). Neither cashier at each store knew this.
