That is why I said presume not assume! (did you read the definition?)
So really here, if I was wrong I am sorry.

Truce?

Best regards

I managed to get this online last night for in store pick up at the not so local OD. The orginal $20 off coupon code on chubby worked fine for me.
There were no more drives at OD when I arrived but they had it waiting for me behind the counter. The staff that helped were a little sad as I beat them to it!
Now I have no idea what to do with the drive.

I am getting very close to a new system however as i have laying around a ti4200 128, 512 PC2700, 56x cdrom, old 300 watt antec case/PSU and a modem. I'm feeling the urge to grab a $60 KT600 board and Athlon XP in the 50 buck range and oc it to it's death!

Just ordered one for in-store pickup. Found a $20 off $100 coupon that worked, too. Sweet. Been looking for another 120GB so I can stripe w/my other one in my HTPC 🙂

Thanks for the post conehead 🙂

Just completed my online order @ $97.25 - $30 MIR --> $67.25, arriving Friday !!

This was the final part needed to complete my new rig.

Cheers bud 😀

ok, this is really upsetting me. Was checking this at work and it went back down to $109.xx. So I get home to buy it and here it's not available near my zip. So I clear my cookies and try the 2 other zips I could pick up at, no go. I then decided I'll just backorder it, go to do that, BAM, it's back to $149.xx!!! GRRR how fustrating

UPDATE: refreshed it 30 min later and showed the right price and is available in store, YAY!!! 😀 OD HD deals are the best IMO, last 1 I got was the 30 gig for like $20 or $30 a long time ago.

Got my drive today and data transferred over.😀

It appears to be as fast as - and possibly faster than - my previous Seagate SCSI rig - WOOT!!!

ok, office depot ppl gave me problems. Went in, gave one girl my order and she said it's comming up to be delivered to my house. I'm like 'um, no, I chose in store pickup and cash payment' she said 'you don't have this coupon with you do you', 'nope' I replied, then she called a guy up. He looked it over and after some debate he said 'ok, well if we have it, sell it to him' he looks over my order sheet he tells me my $95.xx will be after the rebate. I tell him, 'no, that's before rebate, you're online store has it cheaper'. He tells an employee to bring up the website and look up the drive, he mentions the coupon as well and questions it and tells me that the rebate is only in store. The employee tells him the $20 is applied when the order is completed and brings up the rebate online as I point to the laptop. He then gives this speil about how the coupon can't be used for in store. And I tell him 'if I can't use it for in store pickup then why does the site accept it for in store pickup' as I look at my sheet in his hands. I said 'I can just reorder this online' in which he answers 'if you would like to do that you can'. then I cockily responded 'well if you're not going to honor this...' 'OH I SAID I WOULD HONOR IT' he hastly said in an upsetting voice.. 'ok', got rung up with some other junk and left...

this kinda stuff upsets me when management tries to screw you outta a deal they think is too cheap... next time I'm not going to put down cash as my payment, and hopefully I won't have this mixup next time...

oh.. kinda off topic, but while there I was looking at chairs and saw this black/grey mesh Raynor I think it was for $160. Can't seem to find this chair anywhere online... thing was so comfy and soft, anyone know the chair I'm talking about?

It is unfortunate that this type of thing happens. The store manager knows full well that OD puts these discount coupons online to attract business and that they are not printable.
I have had a pretty good experience with OD in my town (probably because I do make a few purchases there) and in the nearest OD's that I have ordered online from. Whether you are a regular customer shouldn't matter, as obviously they are the ones supplying the discount coupons. I will say that OD is still a step ahead of most other retailers in their customer service, payment of rebates, and return policy.

This is a fine drive. Idle noise is many times quieter than the Western Digital 120GB (both BB and JB), thanks to its Fluid Dynamic Bearings. The idle whine from the Western Digital drives became more than annoying. Seeks are significantly noisier than the 20GB-40GB Maxtor DiamondMax Plus8 drives, but i can live with that as long as I can't hear the drive at idle. Setting AAM should remedy this at the expense of seek times.

A check of the noise specs for each of the above drives confirmed my observations.

If benchmarking the Maxtor drive, write to the entire drive before starting the benchmark. According to recent reports, on a brand new drive, a write verify is done once on each part of the disc to verify data integrity. And power-cycling 10 times doesn't seem to disable write verify as with previous drives. This drive is a good performer in benchmarks once the run-in process has been completed.

ya, idle it's quite, bit loud while active, but it's just another storage drive for me, I use a 30 gig plus8 I think it is for my main drive. Got write errors in win2k while copying from my 60 gig deathstar. pos deathstar got screwed up on me for the 2nd time since I've had it and lost some files while recovering it. Have yet had a problem with any of my now 4 maxtors yet tho 😀

Nice repost from chubby.

However the AT folks will want in on this, just seems poor manners not to credit. In the unlikely event you just came up with this 10 mins after it was posted on chubby then I apoligise for my presumption.

The pre-rebate price will be ~$90 depending on your state tax.

Best regards

well I do not go to chubby's, and this is not a repost here. Not taking advantage of this offer but thanks conehead. I don't care if the deal is posted on 10,000 other sites, you still brought it HERE.

Poor manners to not credit another site? WTF...... Are you Toni from Paradise Hotel?

i ordered this and selected in store pickup. when icalled to check if it was ready they said it couldn't be picked up so i called the 888-go-depot number and complained and they knocked off another 10 bucks. so it cost my $86 w/tax - $30 MIR = $56 to my door.

Would someone PLEASE sell me their ata card that comes with it for free? I need one for the system im building, and sadly can't find the one I got with my order.

Mine did not come with a ATA card, no drive railings. If it did it would have been a hotter deal. Not sure about OD, but I remember that CompUSA sometimes includes an ATA/IDE card with their Maxtors.
