BB B&M have a Maxtor 120GB ("100GB + 20GB Free") 7200rpm 2MB cache for $90 AR ($150-$40-$20). CompUSA have the same drive (in the weekly ad but not fully identified) for $100 AR ($140-$40). PM BB to CompUSA (110% = $11) and you'll get it for $139 - $60MIRs. This deal have been verified. May end today (2/22). See drive here.

Good luck!

I have seen many deals on this hard drive, but this deal seems to be good for those who don't want to wait for rebates and pay $75 + tax...

some of BB 120GB harddrives are of 8MB cache variance. of course this is YMMV. I bought two of these suckers laast week and they're both 8MB cache variance.

Staples' PM policy is not to PM rebates. However, if they're still making a profit after the PM they may well give it to you. YMMV.

I got in on this last weekend with the 10% off. So $150 less 10% less $60MIR =$75 plus tax. Great Deal.

You are wrong. I've done this 4 times in the past 2 weeks and have never had a problem.

Just had a nightmare situation in BB. I went in to repeat last night's PM but was refused because "we are cheaper after rebates". I got just a little annoyed because I tried to PM another item from the CompUSA ad earlier in the week and they refused because "we don't take mail in rebates into account". I mentioned this to them and asked,

Me: "OK, which is it? Do you PM before MIRs or after?"
Manager: "It depends".
Me: "You mean you make the rules up as you go?"
Manager: "No. We generally don't PM rebates".
Me: "So why won't you PM this hard drive then?"
Manager: "If you buy from us and find it cheaper we will *try* and help you out."
Me: "Your PM policy [displayed in front of me] say's nothing about 'trying to people out'. It says 100% price match."
Manager: "As I said, it depends on the product."
Me: "I assume a PM policy is to allow customers to buy with confidence and know that they won't get it cheaper elsewhere. From what you are telling me I can have no confidence in Best Buy that that will be the case."
Manager: "I understand what you are saying Sir. Get the drive and I'll price match it."

So I got my $10 but it wasn't really worth the headache and the spectacle I created. I have bought $1000's worth of stuff from BB over the years and I think I have tried a PM only three times, including today. This is b*llsh*t and I'm strongly tempted to bring this matter to the Secretary of State. They have a stated PM policy but they change the rules to suit themselves... and that's not an ethical business practise.

Typical BB PM nightmare.
That's part of why I won't do business with them anymore.
Fortunately for me, the CC in my area is staffed by nice, friendly people who are happy to live up to their company's stated policies - YMMV :frown:

I won't buy from best buy either. Bunch of jerks. I say even if you have to pay a little extra for it somewhere else, at least you know you'll be getting good customer service if something would happen to the item you purchased...

Methinks Madeleine Albright has more important fish to fry. Just a hunch.

Personally I think we'd all be better off if he went to war with Best Buy instead of Iraq! :)

Actually, I really meant Jennifer Glenholm, governor of MI. Consumer rights has always been at the top of her agenda. She pounced on the gas stations when they started gouging after 9/11. She also pinned a lot of the national chain stores for fraudulent sales advertising. Methinks she may just be prepared to give BB a clip across the ear-hole!

If this is going to turn into another Best Buy sux post, please take it somewhere else. There are people who like, and dislike all stores. Get over it and move on.

Dang The Anandtech Effect...

I caved. Got 2 drives, rang em up separately. $149.99 (+ 6.5% Tax) -$40 MIR - $20 MIR =about $99.74 per drive. This makes up for the unadvertized special that I missed out on a month or so ago.

My fault for missing the preferred weekend special discount, but 0.83 / gigabyte is cool with me.

Now I can do something else with the 40/60/80 gb drives in my file server.

Thanks to AT and BobSnob for pointing out the deal.

On the rebates since one goes to BB and other to maxtor, who gets the original and who gets the copy of the UPC code?

Of course I already made copies of everything in case.

Thanks in advance.

Another twist on this I read about earlier and did tonight involves Staples.

I was at the Springfield, IL BB tonight and they had this (100+2) Maxtor for $89.99 after all the rebates. I then went to Staples (locally) and they PM it at the lower price (110%). So, two 120GB HD's for $84 each; plus tax.

They would NOT let me use a coupon in addition to the PM, but since I had some GC cards, I didn't mind, and might go back later this week and see if I can use the coupon then.

Thanks for the deal(s).

I know what you mean, but knowing what you're up against is half the trick in getting good deals. It's important to know how stores PM so we can be prepared rather than be fobbed off with a lame excuse. I still intend to send a letter to the governor because I think BB are unscrupulous with respect to their own published PM policy by which they are bound.

You might want to spell her name right... it's Jennifer Granholm. And now that she's governor I doubt that she cares... If you're serious about filing a complaint try the new state Attorney General, Mike Cox. link
