Actually the koutech let's you do RAID 1, so you would be able to use that for parity....hehehe.....but I can't justify doing that either...

Oh, I thought you were talking RAID 5 :Q :)

Yah I get my replacement Koutech today or tomorrow. Newegg RMA is the best, they cross-shipped 2 day Fed-Ex. No hassle even though the reason for replacement was a bad LED header.

Also, I think the earlier linked Koutech is the ATA100 model.

Here's the one Kevman and I have

Koutech I/O Future PIR133 RAID card for $33 shipped at Newegg.

There's a review of the card (Digit-Life I think) as well as a lengthy thread here on Hot Deals about this card (search "RAID") and it performs as well as much pricier cards from Promise and Highpoint. It also performs better from my own tests than the Adaptec 1200A (HPT370) and is based on the Silicon Image 680 controller; the same chip found on many mobos and the same company that makes the newer SATA RAID controllers found on the Asus A7N8X-DLX.

MAKE SURE it's $145.45 and not $150 something if you use the 10% off coupon... The computer is ringing up the 10% coupon as $10 off instead of 10% off if they scan the coupon. I had to argue like 5 minutes with the guy to get the right discount.

This same thing happend to me in the Knoxville, TN Bestbuy just a few weeks ago.

Hehe well...if you want to REALLY live dangerously, you could try and dip into the 'ole Raples, erm Staples bag of tricks....

How I scored 2 of these Bad Oscars for $82 each.

They didn't note the fine print on the rebate offer. The key (and major hurdle) is to get them to do the pricematch, then its open season on quantity. If some brave (and persistent) soul tries, it might still be possible, but again from recent reports, Staples has really clamped down on PM'ing rebates. When I did this, they explicitly told me they do not normally PM rebates, but would do it this ONE time to keep me as a customer, lol. Also, when the drive was advertised at $119 at BB, I don't think the ad mentioned anything about 1 rebate per household.

Called several BB in Illinois and they all ring up $199 - $50 MIR. Anyone know if they will pricematch themselves and, if so, would anyone send me a copy of their $149 receipt?

Thanks!

Not a good sign. Looks as if it was a 1 day PM to CUSA b/c of their advertised price of $149.99 AR. This has precedence as BB has done this one day sale on a few occasions to steal CUSA's thunder.

Ebay?

I've been avging about 30% profit on these deals. There is a certain amount of capital required (because of rebates), but I haven't had any problems so far, and it's a damn good return on an 8 week investment.

I just got back from the Orange Ct. Best Buy. The drive scanned at the register at $199.99. I asked the girl to do a price check to make sure that it wasn't 149.99. She came back, rang the thing up via the UPC and it showed $139.99 that way. Took off the 10% coupon, added the tax and it came to $133 and change. With rebate that brings the price down to $83. The bad news is that they only had 3 on the shelf and all 3 sold while I was in the store. I hope others got the same deal I did. The good news is that the store had a bunch of the Western Digital 60GB drives that you can get for under $40 with rebate, so anyone looking for those will be happy.

Thanks jktam, that's a great find and it could not have come at a better time. I'm ordering parts for a new Athlon XP system and was looking to find an 8MB cache drive as the primary. This will do very nicely. Now, what to do with all that storage...

Just got one in Michigan, took some doing however.

I went to the Southgate MI store, shelf tag read $149.99 -50 MIB but they had no stock, called over to the Dearborn MI store they had one left, so I had them put it on hold for me. Got there, rang up $199.99 -50 MIB, the CSR told me the other store would pricematch it. So I bought it at $199.99 and PMed it to the Southgate store, so got it for $149.99 +6% tax -50 MIB, best I could do, but I'd say still a damn good deal on a premiuim drive.

Thanks for the info guys! I went to the Costa Mesa store in So. Cal and they didn't have anymore on the shelf. I asked one of the sales guys if they had anymore and he pulled one out from the counter. He didn't say how many they had left.
I also had to show the guy the list price on the shelf as $149-$50 rebate = $99 because he rang it up as $199.99.

Did you ask them to do an explicit price check using the UPC before concluding that it's really $199? There were a few people that posted earlier that even though it rings up as $199 when an actual pricecheck is done it shows as $149 or $139. I'm hoping to get in on this deal but if what you said is true then it could save me a trip since I'm in the area as well.

I had no luck with this deal. The ONLY BB in the buffalo area had them for 199 - 50 MIR. I even had the BB worker do a price check, it came back 199.

Does anyone have/can get a copy of the price/model#(instore tag) from BB or a receipt that they can PM me? I would LOVE to get in on this deal!

I wanted this information so I can bring it to BM and show that it HAS sold for $149...and get it for that price.

I went back to the BB in VA Beach were I bought my drive for $149 plus the $50 MIR, and they changed the tag on the shelf to $199 plus the $50 MIR, I asked the guy at the counter and he gave me a bunch of crap about it was just a one day sale and now it was over. The tag clearly read $149 plus the $50 MIR from 19 Jan 2003 til 25 Jan 2003 when I purchased the drive. BB messed up and now they are trying to cover their tracks.
