WTF??? Who pays 350 for a motherboard!?!?!?!?

More power to you I love my toys too but *DAMN*, no way in hell you'll catch me spending that on a motherboard, ever. Gotta be at LEAST 150% mark up.

Call me a sucker for accessories. :X

Sucker!:D

Cannot wait to see what you can do with this board. I am probably going to wait until the S2011 to upgrade from the S1156 (i5-760) I have. Although looking at reviews, I wish I could have held off for another 3 or 4 months.

Good luck with the board. Its a awesome piece. I like the looks of the new Asus sabertooth with its 'jacket'. I can't afford to buy this expensive of m/b, it supports more than 2 video cards.
I can reason a 200 dollar board that supports 2, and would get the less expensive K 2500. Thats me :)
OT, my sis went back nights and got her Masters, and now buys 500 dollar purses, her girl toys.

Just wonder how many of the "gotta have it" posts are real and how many are dripping with sarcasm? LOL

I was after the Maximus, but none of the shops here have it in stock so i went with the UD7 which was my first choice anyway. The Maximus is a nice board i'm sure you will love it.

Had it been available i might have gotten it, but i'm happy with the UD7. Good luck to you with that board :).

curious, what can this board do that a $180 P8P67 PRO can't do?

To impress people? But I sure as hell not impressed by an grossly overpriced mobo.

*waits for "I have more disposable income than you noob" argument*

I can care less what anyone thinks so it's definitely not that. Why did i buy this over a Fatality? Simple

1. Have a Maximus III and had a Crosshair IV. Love Asus boards
2. Best overclocking board on the market.

http://hwbot.org/hardware/motherboard/maximus_iv_extreme?tab=info

3. I never settle and buy whatever i want. I'm not married, have any kids.. That i know of :).. Have an amazing career. I buy what i want whenever i want. I wanted this board ever since the first time i laid eyes on it.

4. Fatal1ty wasn't available and i needed to order a board by noon so i ordered this. Yeah it's expensive but who cares. It's only money

we can all say what we want.. but at the end of the day.. we're all here, reading and posting, because this is a hobby...

No one overclocks because they save money by increasing the clock speed to that of a higher priced chip.. because when the smoke clears (no pun intended).. the cost of the aftermarket heat sink, improved air flow case, extra case fans, controllers, thermal paste, monitoring tools, time and labor to make that all happen blows that all out the door... we do it because we think its fun... a hobby..... a challenge.....

So shame on anyone who knocks someone for spending $350 for a mobo !!!

p.s. but damn dude...that is an awful lot of cash for a board .. no ?

Yeah it's a lot but i'd rather spend it on myself then on the lady for a new coach purse.

The only board which is a total waste of money is the X58A-UD9 which was priced to the moon and back! But really as mlc stated there is no saving money in buying computer hardware and all of us do this for fun.

As to why anyone would pay $350 for a motherboard is a rather easy question to answer. It's their build and their money and that's that!

I payed $320 for my UD7, why, because i can afford it and i wanted it - Do you really need to know more lol .

$350 for S1155 board that won't even guarantee compatibility with 6- or 8-core processors? I bet you will be able to get a solid $200-250 LGA2011 board for that much $.

Sure someone got a world record on air cooling with this board, but anything beyond 1.40V and you are probably asking for a quick death on SB processors on 24/7 overclock at load. I mean anyone can crank 1.55V through a 32nm chip to break some wPrime and Cinebench 11.5 scores. It's totally different to maintain a healthy overclock. Once you consider the real world case, the difference between a $350 and a $150 board will be practically nil.

100% agree. I know LGA2011 isn't out yet, but >$250 is really 'premium' MB range. I want the BEST chipset for that price, and that starts with an 'X' for Intel. I certainly would want 2x16 (minimum) + 1x8 pcie lanes , SLI/CF support (maybe tri-SLI/CF even), etc. for that price. My P6T deluxe was only $300 at launch for 1366.

Most high end P67 boards offer an NF200 chipset giving you 2x16 PCI-E lanes and 3 way SLI/Xfire.

I will expect the high end Rampage Extreme/UD9 boards for the 2011 chipset to be much more expensive than the current 1155 high end offerings. But 2011 will be the 'X58' of the Sandy Brigde era and thus be a more expensive platform.

If we look at the X58 platform you could do pretty much anything on a GA-X58-UD3R so why on earth would you buy a Rampage Extreme III?

At the end of the day it's up to what the user wants to put in his/her case, because everyone knows that a motherboard that is $150 cheaper than the most expensive offering can still give the same benchmark scores, but it just lacks frills and frills sell!

And it must REALLY sell seeing as it went out of stock the same day it was listed ;)

I couldn't of said it better myself, I for one will be buying this board as soon as it is in stock...

not trying to mock someone for paying $350 for this board. I'm just trying to figure out what tangible benefits you get compared to a $180 P8P67 PRO board.

If the tangible benefit for you is "I buy what i want whenever i want. I wanted this board ever since the first time i laid eyes on it. " then so be it, again not trying to judge, just trying to figure out what you're getting for that extra $170 premium.

does a regular board have the visual aesthetics as a premium board?

To some aesthetics play a big role in choice.

Given true you wont see it unless you have a windows case, but i think a good portion of us builders do use windows.

And we like looking at things which are eye candy.
Its called Eye Candy.

And i dont think if anyone had the opportunity to own the board would turn it down. It boils down to budget.

But like all things in the world, not everyone is meant to drive the ferarri.
Same can be said for premium boards.

Not everyone will ever use one, its a nichce.

And seeing how fast they were sold out, its a pretty popular niche.

Ok I understand now, thanks for clarification. I notice you used a Ferrari as a comparision. I can see the point about "eye candy" and "exclusivity", is it safe then to also assume this $350 board is a lot faster as well?

I currently own 2 Asus RoG boards & if I were going to build another system right now, I'd be all over this Maximus IV board. Why? Because I can & I appreciate the quality, attention to detail, accessories & overclock ability of this series. That's it. The rest is moot.

something tells me newegg didnt have as many maximus boards to sell as compared to other 'non-premium' boards.

ever since MCH's have moved onto the CPU, and especially now with SB and no more bclk OC'ing, i find it very very difficult to pay a super premium for a board with the intention of max OC when all i have to do is change the CPU multiplier.

to me, if you thought OCing was something about getting that 'golden chip' that can go higher than anyone elses same chips, that is ever more true now.

the only time i would pay extra for a board is when it has good pwm cooling vs one that does not have it at all or a poor cooling choice.

i see what others have said about just a regular 150-170 dollar board, and i looked at some of the low end offerings like the UD3 that do not have any pwm cooling at all. i suppose that they can get away with it because of SB's lower power profile, but once those pwm coolers go on for like 20 or 30 extra, i dont really see an OC improvement in spending any more past that.
