photoediting large images

anticipated build:
primary storage: raided SSD (not sure if this is worth it as it may exceed the sata3 bandwidth)

secondary storage: large rotational drive with intel srt using 64 gig ssd (basically a raid of a large drive with an ssd)

lots of ram
fast memory bandwidth
fast cpu
QUIET

to achieve the criteria above I am still befuddled
QUIET is necessary so am thinking Ivy bridge->cooler and quieter

Within the Ivy bridge constraint, 32 gb is max mem.
cpu and memory speed best achieved with asus z77 deluxe mobo-although i like the components on the maximus gene V - better chokes, better over clocks.

i am just stuck at memory selection. or should i go with x79 with sb-E and sacrifice cool and quiet to get 64 gb? I think I can live with 32 gb. I need the quiet.

keep in mind that X79 doesn't have Intel SRT support like Z68 and the newer H77/Z77 platforms, so if you wanted to go X79 and still cache accelerate a HDD you'll need to get a motherboard with 3rd party support (for instance my Sabertooth X79 has extra SATA ports with their own implementation) or go with a specific Cache SSD with included support

that being said I think you should be pretty safe with 32GB

tnx for ur input but i probably didnt make myself clear. i could manage with 32 gb-that would be enough for photoshop managing 500 meg images with layers, etc.- it would use ~20 gig. the question is how much could i overclock a z77 with all ram slots full? I wrote to asus and they told me that the qvl is meaningless-the memory is managed by the cpu. lol.guess i'l have to wait till after april 23 to find out.
