I just bought a copy of HalfLife and installed on my two lan computers - I'm getting an error that the cdkey cannot be shared, I remember back in the dorms days, there were 2 users max. per cdkey for cstrike. My lan computers are connected via a linksys router - adsl connection -

let me know if the rules have changed or it's something with how my router is setup (ie. forwarding ips to a specific computer)

tia!

Not sure on the exact rules on it, but considering the cost ($10-15) of such an all-time great game, I don't see a great reason not to purchase an additional copy.

Well i thought i was able to do that when my friend "jacked" my cdkey and played simultaneously while i was playing online too...Maybe cuz of a netgear rt314?

Back a year ago or so, we had a minimum 3 people on one key. The 3 of us would join an online game and run things for a little while, it was fun.

Now I find the key only works for 1 person at a time, so you're out of luck. Sorry. :)

What ver. of cstrike are you using? I hear that the newest ver. only allows 1 user per key ...

One. But if you do some searching and you'll find a working Key Generator (not that I endorse it or anything)

dude, you can have as many as you want, as long as you play on the inernet in DIFFERENT games. If you are playing in the SAME game, buy another copy.

With the latest Half-Life update, you cannot use the same cdkey from the same IP, at the same time. Before, everyone, behind one IP could use the same cdkey, but that is no longer true.

let me give my input.

before the latest half life patch, i know that you could have at least 4 computers on the same cd key, server independent. you could be on the same server, different server, it wouldn't make a difference.
how do i know this? i have four computers down here in my basement and we all played with the same cd-key and got WON authentication.

AFTER the patch, only 1 cd-key per user, PERIOD.
it doesn't matter if you're on the same server or not. you will not be able to play at all if someone else is using that cd-key at the same time.

i'm using the SMC barricade if it makes any difference.
