Hi Guys
Running windows XP Home,512Mb pc2700 ram, P4 2.66GHz, GF Ti4200 (128Mb).

I like to run MS Flight Sim and would like to max available by shutting down unnecessary processes running as indicated by Task Manager. How do I know which to close thus freeing more memory for the game.

Thanks in anticipation

I woudn't really mess with the processes unless you know exactly what each one is for. (I personally don't)

The only things I would mess with are any programs that may startup in the beginning automatically. You can check this by looking at what's loaded in the right hand side of the taskbar and checking to see what's in your Startup Folder under Programs menu.

Go ahead and try shutting down some of the processes Frank. You may see a bunch of svchost process running, but pay particular attention to the ones that are actually utilizing the CPU. IM stuff etc. Most of the processes do have a descriptive name that you can figure out what to shut down. As you shut them down, the associated svchost will shut down as well. Good luck!
