in the past not all maxell discs were made in japan. they sometimes used ritek. so ymmv. if you get made in japan discs, you should be good to go.

Seems like most OD dont have the ones made in Japan, but good news, another post has Sony 8X +R/-R on sale at CompUSA for $19.99. I checked those out myself and found that the -R is made by sony, the disc code is sony008 or something like that, and the +R is 8X TY and burnt at 16X on my BenQ. Both are made in Japan. I bought the -R disks because they were out of the +R, these -R are 8X and are made in Japan. Can't beat that for $19.97.

**Update... the pack I bought is showing up as Max 003 and will burn at 16X on my NEC-3500AG.**

I've bought these 4X Maxells at OD before. If they are Made in Japan they are fine.

The -R's can be MXL RG02 or TYG01, I've had both. They burn at 4X on my NEC 1300a and 6X on my NEC 2500a.

If they are labeled Taiwan it could be RITEKG04 which were pretty crappy for me. They would only burn at 2X on my NEC 1300a with newest firmware.

Just picked up a 25 pack of 8x DVD+R for $9.99 (they have minus too for the same price) in Sunnyvale, CA.

Nero Infotool says they are Maxell 002 made in Japan, which should burn at 12-16x on Quikee/LiggyDee firmware (Yuden T02 write strategy) or 8x with default firmware for the NEC ND3500A.
