the verbatime 16x are MCC004 from reports and may not be worth the premium as they seem to be suited on many drives for 12x burning

they can burn at 16x but some have had issues

Ughhhh...

Ritek sucks. R03 media is terrible quality. Can't stand it.

Do yourself a favor and stick to a trusty brand like FujiFilm. (TY)

[edit]I found the label in tiny letters above the UPC - it does say made in japan.

visual inspection reveals a disc that doesn't appear to be up to TY standards. There appears to be dust on the top disc in the (sealed) pack, and the dye has rough edges at the outside if the disc. There is noticably less "glue" extending past the edge of the disc than on previous media I have had, but quick check with thumbnail does not seem to indicate any obvious problems. Despite dirty top, the optical surface is clean of defects and dust.

Dvdinfo reveals:

Media code/Manufacturer ID MAXELL 002
Media Product Revision Number 00h
Format Capacity Blank Disc
Free Blocks 405405696
Free Capacity 4.38GB(4.70GB)
Book Type DVD+R
Media Type DVD+R
Manufacturer Rated Speed 8.0x 11080KBps

burn results were inconclusive (seem to be having drive or firmware issues), but does not appear to equal TY T02 quality on NEC 3520 drive at 8x or at 12x. Appears to be superior to RicohJPN R01.

What does TY stand for? I am new to this DVD Burning business.

What is the conclusion on these disks? Are they good quality?

Maxell 8x -R "made in Japan" are MXL RGO3. This is very high quality media (perhaps the best -R media widely available in the U.S.). NEC3520 will burn at 16x.

The maxell media codes are some of the best out there. I havent seen those riteks in the +rs before. yuck. If you get MIJ you will be getting some of the best media out there and the -r MXL RG03 might be the best if you ask me. Great burns at 12x and very good burns at 16x. And for the guy who said stick to a trusted brand like Fuji.....WTF they use some crappy codes along with the TY.....maxell media is normally good no matter what.....Im not sure where those riteks came from though.

Imation DVDs using Verbatim/MCC azo media? That's news to me - and rather hot! (IMHO, MCC azo-based media is actually as good as, or better than, T-Y cyanine-based media, at least it was in the CD-R days. Nowadays I'm not sure what dye type T-Y uses for DVDs.) Thanks for the info.

That's what code"DVDinfoPro" gives me, now it could be wrong, but it recorded good ,no jitter, freeze up and player pops right up when inserted just like the original.

Just downloaded DVD Identifier from CDFreaks and still get the same codes. So far I'm sold on these. In fact I'm stopping back by OM this A.M. to get another stack to compare and see if all are same codes. If so, I'm happy as a pig in poop.
