Max Payne gets messy....bald...maybe a little pudgy

did max payne always look like a paranoid homeless maniac?

Those HUGE veins will be great for shooting co-KANE!

I can deal with the look somewhat, but what about the voice actor? I'm sure that's changing, too. Another crucial element is the music. Both games had great music composed by that weirdo Nordic dude. I hope he gets the job.

Looks like grandpa Max... How old is he anyway? 65? 70? Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4 looks like a brat compaed to him 😉

Anyway, let's wait and see. Hopefully it's as good as the first two games 🙂

I have been wishing that they would make a next gen Max Payne game for years. I still remember how awesome the first one was/is! Played through it again a few months ago and it was great. I sort of forgot how hard it was...you tend to die a lot; quick load ftw. I couldn't believe how easy it was to beat the game after some of those (much more difficult) "boss" fights!

Please don't screw this up, Rockstar...

I love this. I think it's great that Rockstar is taking the game in a new direction, but not veering far enough to where it's a reboot of the franchise. Granted plot details have not been revealed yet, I have always found the Max Payne series interesting because of it's general gritty, hardboiled cop feel--and because it's just so messed up.

To me, this is a much more refrshing approached than just Max Payne 3: The Sequel of Dead Bodies Everywhere.

I'm interested to see how this turns out with Rockstar behind the wheel and without the involvement of Remedy Entertainment or Max Payne himself: Sam Lake.

The plot sounds similar to Man on Fire.

Max is now bald, bearded and addicted to pain killers.

I think Max tried to hit me up for a $1 last week to buy some fortified wine, although it could have just been some random bum. What ever happened to games with protagonists that you actually wanted to be?

I used to be scared to hang out with Max Payne. Now, I could chill with him on a street corner eating meatball subs out of paper wrappers and sippin' on Night Train.

Why doesn't Rockstar just say, 'Fuck it' and make Max an old, pissed off black guy; same outfit, bald head and beard. Just change his ethnicity. That would be cool. Then drop the addiction to painkillers and make the meatball subs and Night Train his powerups. 🙂

Robert Downey Jr. to star in the third film, confirmed.

Shack has some additional details from the GI article.

New Details

* The cover system is "not the focus of the game," writes Game Informer, with Rockstar's Rob Nelson noting that "the way that you experience this world isn't just take cover, shoot, and move to the next piece of cover."
* "We took all the elements of traditional Max and expanded it out so the game becomes gun ballet, or gun-fu, or whatever you want to call it," added Nelson.
* Max Payne 3 is set 12 years after the events of Max Payne 2.
* Max is a broken man, and now works in private security for a wealthy family. He moved to Sao Paulo, Brazil to escape the demons of New York.
* Many objects in the game are destructible, such as crates.
* Max can now use human shields.
* Rockstar used scanning equipment to help capture the real-life feel of the Sao Paulo ghettos, which apparently caused some issues getting through customs.

Original: Game Informer has revealed a new piece of artwork from Max Payne 3, with the sequel to be featured in its July 2009 issue.

While little is known of the forthcoming action game, which is being developed by Rockstar Vancouver instead of creator Remedy and occurs roughly 10 years after Max Payne 2, Deeko passes along some details allegedly pulled out of Game Informer.

* In addition to being bald and bearded, Max is addicted to pain killers.
* That pain killer addiction will affect gameplay.
* The game is set in Sao Paulo, Brazil, with battles in "urban ghetto" locales.
* "Fully destructible environments" and a cover system are in.
* Bullet Time is now "more visceral and ultra-violent."
* Online multiplayer is in, but no details.
* Powered by Rockstar's RAGE technology (GTA4, Red Red Redemption).

Is Brazil the new Middle East/Old Soviet Bloc countries? Seems like many games are moving down there. Probably the devs wanting to go somewhere nice to scout for locations. 🙂

well good that they ditched the cover system, now he's just batshit insane and kills everybody. my kind of game.
