I couldn't care less for the storyline, didn't seem interesting but it did keep the game rolling along. For me, the biggest issue is that craptacular gameplay. It's really just the exact same thing over and over. I didn't mind it for the first few levels, but it never changes, and the weapons never get more interesting. Streamlined and simplified to the point that I wasn't even sure why I was playing it anymore. Uninstalled and forgotten. The cover system is really quite buggy and imprecise, the game probably needed another few months before release.

Just curious though, why do so many people play games JUST for the story? Maybe read a book? Honestly, I haven't been impressed with game storylines since Baldurs Gate 2. If people are really that desperate for a good storyline, why not try reading? I wince when I hear people praising the story of these simplistic third person shooters. Though I have to admit, at least a couple of the characters in MP3 were somewhat compelling.

I am at chapter 8 right now, and the game is pretty faithful to the other Max Payne games. I will say that without the underlying theme of revenge pushing you along, I don't have the feeling that my sheer will is pushing me against incredible odds like I did in the first two games.

Here's a theory: people enjoy the experience of the game, and so they appreciate the story. It's a little how like if you like the sex, you appreciate other qualities more.

That's why people one minute are crazy about someone with them, and after they break up they think they're a monster. 'What did I see in them?'

There's also the relative issue, that a decent story is better than a lot of games.

I played till Chapter 9 but thats as far I can take. Truth is for the shitload of guys that get killed in each chapter, the story progrsession is very little. I am trying to decide if I should watch the walkthrough videos to see what happens in the end or should I turn on God mode and just breeze through the shooting part.

The story progresses pretty rapidly from chapter 10 on. The ending was rather predictable though. I thought they might add a curve ball from your past to spi e it up at the end.

I got this off the Steam sale for $29.99, and I've got to say that thus far it's been stunning. I love it, Rockstar is so far ahead of everyone else in the story and graphics/animation department it's almost not even fair. I was torn on buying it vs. waiting for it to inevitably hit $10 in a year, I'm glad I jumped in, highly recommended for anyone that likes gore-y, adult-themed 3rd person shooters.

Absolutely agree, best game I have played this year. The smooth slick graphics and combat is just like Max Payne 2 and in no way shape or form does it feel like a dodgy port. High res textures on the scopes and TV complete the picture. Quality product.

Multiplayer reminds me a bit of Kingpin from 1999.

Glad I picked it up for £15, 50% off for a game like this just over a month old is a steal.

Just beat the game last week. It was longer than I expected it to be, but the story was pretty cool.

Gameplay was awesome. It reminded me a lot of the 1st Max Payne game, but different in some ways. Really enjoyed it. Gonna play it again in "Old School" mode.
