I have been holding off playing through till I put in my new 7970 that comes today. With the 7850, when I turned everything too max/very high, it said it was using 2015 out of 2048 vram, but surprisingly it was still playable without any lag other than the jerky mouse!

My bad, didn't realize that was for console only as I flipped a coin to decide on D3 or MP3 (fan of both series) when I noticed the adds on TV, I haven't been keeping up with games very much these days.

And I know it's an apple to... Watermelon comparison. I mainly threw that in there to get people riled up. :p

I was actually rather confused when I was at the midnight release for Diablo III. I kept looking around for a PC version of Max Payne 3, and I couldn't find one. Lo and behold, I looked at Steam, and saw that the game wasn't coming out for two weeks. :p

The game is simply trying to teach you the important lesson that if you ever find yourself in a gun battle with multiple enemies, diving directly at them is probably not your best strategy unless you can manage to kill them all in the process. Good lesson for everyday life, I think.

I beat the game. Steam says I have 11 hours clocked in it. Some of that was spent fiddling around in menus and watching credits, so I'd say it's 10 hours long right on the dot. Still not as long as I'd like for $60, but meh... I already kinda was expecting that when I bought the game, so I won't bitch about it.

The ending was pretty great. It was satisfying and tied things up pretty nicely.

I'll most likely be playing it again. While it's only 10 hours long, those are 10 hours of pretty high-quality entertainment.

It looks like Max Payne 3 has a new patch, and it sounds like it should fix some of the mouse troubles that people have been mentioning:

Mouse Sensitivity
* Fixed reported issues of mouse being sluggish, especially in prone and Shootdodge™. Increased top end range of mouse sensitivity, but kept the slider from 1-10, allowing the user more range in their sensitivity setting.
Mouse Acceleration
* Fixed reported issues of mouse acceleration affecting aiming, included commandline option to disable mouse acceleration, -nomouseaccel (In a future update, this will be added as an option in the Mouse Controls menu).

Runs like a charm at these settings, FRAPS works flawlessly as well:
25x14
Everything VHigh/Max
No FXAA
No MSAA
AF MAX

I typically get 80-120 FPS average and the minimum is usually in 60s-80s :)

Can't ask for more.

This is of course with my 7970 at 1175 1550. With stock I would probably get about 20 FPS less :(

Anyway, pretty awesome :)

That's pretty quick if it addresses people's complaints. Looks like they may have a solid PC support team, at least for launch issues.

Finished it yesterday. All settings maxed out at 1080p except shaders on "high" and MSAA off, wouldn't allow it with 1GB video RAM, i5 2400 and 5770. Didn't do FPS count but it played well.

I give it 7.5/10. Didn't like how the game forces weapon selection change when you approach cut scene triggers in order to remain consistent with the cut scene. Also didn't like how you can't hang onto rare weapons. Found scoped rifles but game "took them away" soon afterwards.

to me, they didn't force weapon selection on me, unless I coincidentally chose the weapon they wanted for the cutscene... But it doesn't matter, whatever gun you're after (except the barret) you'll pretty much get it very soon anyways...

tearing up the police station was fun :)

Why...would they fix the mouse sensitivity AFTER I beat the game?

Ah well, guess it's time to play again! :)

Seriously, they patched the game literally an hour or two after I finished it last night.

I'm already replaying it on hard mode. :) I'm doing OK so far, because even on hard, the enemies at the beginning are still really easy compared to the enemies I finished dealing with at the end of the game on Normal mode. As I get further into the game though, I'm probably gonna get my ass kicked. Badly. (I got my ass kicked enough on Normal mode.)

If you use a rifle, approaching cut scene triggers "forces" Max to carry the rifle in left hand and switch to the pistol so that it's consistent with the cut scene. My gripe was that I wanted to hang onto the scoped rifle throughout the game.

Agreed on the police station level, that was fun.

For anyone who has played w/and w/out the mouse "patch", does it improve mouse use enough to make it enjoyable, or would you recommend to wait a few more weeks to see if there is another patch or two before buying it?

Got just about everything on max except multi sample thing and it runs perfectly and look pretty good too.

Got to say, only on chapter 2, but enjoying this game. Story driven games are the best. I can't get used to this slow motion stuff, just find myself parked behind cover a lot. I suppose jumping out with that dived slow down is the answer. Playing through my 40inch TV in 1080p with an Xbox controller.

I recommend xbox controller. In my experience, third person games are always better with a pad. Mouse for FPS.

I played the first two with a mouse+keyboard with no problem. The typical benefit of a mouse isn't related to it being in first person, but rather the typically superior accuracy that it provides. You still gain this benefit being in third person.

Yes, my 7850 manhandles this game at 1080p maxed out. It never dips below 60fps.

The game is very well coded. The graphics are nice and the performance is phenomenal.

Hmmm I may give it a go but I also prefer playing on the TV this game with how cinematic it is. Have to experiment.

The game itself took forever to download as steam wasn't going quickly. It was 29gb or something stupid.

Yes MP3 is most defiantly one of the few games that I would consider a must get boxed copy.

Only took around 3.5 hours to download it over Steam. Steam Mobile let me buy it and download it right from the client.

Well I just tried it and it transformed the game. On the pad I was struggling to use the controls properly but this way, every shot can be a head shot and using the slow-mo is much more useful and overall much more enjoyable experience.

Only downside is through the monitor isn't as cinematic as the TV seems more like a game now than a movie.

Monitor can see the details much more clearly though and looks shit hot.

Really good game!

Most people don't have that kind of bandwidth to DL 30GB+ of data in only 3.5hrs me finks you don't ether.

Max Payne 3 only uses 29185 MB on Steam.

29185MB / 3MB/S / 60S/M / 60M/H = 2.70H

So, it probably took less than what I stated. That also doesn't take into account that I can get far higher than 3MB/S. I don't see why people are in such denial that 20MBit Internet connections aren't uncommon.

On steam I get max 500kb/s usually, slow connection we have.

However, this time around couldn't break 200 on any server. Think its been busy lately perhaps.
