I loved the first Max Payne and I remember being excited about the sequel, but when it came out my computer was too slow for it so I skipped it and forgot about it.

Last week I saw it on a friend's shelf and oh my, what had I been missing, the graphics aren't half bad (except for Max's walking motion, which looks unnatural), voice acting is good and everything I loved about the original is here, I had a lot of fun playing through the fun house levels and I just discovered you even **spoiler** get to play as Mona  **spoiler**.

Are there any mods or things I should know about to make it more enjoyable? does anyone know if Alan Wake will have this style of gameplay or are there any recent games like this? I'd forgotten about cool third person games in the PC :)

I have been to lazy to reinstall MP2 even though it is sitting 10 inches from me right now, the 7th serpent mods look good, that's why i was going to reinstall. Why don't you play them and let me know if they are as good as they look :)

Max Payne and Max Payne 2 are just epic games, I've re-played them so many times I have lost count actually! Bullet-time 2.0 just blew me away the first time I played it.

I've tried a few mods with Max Payne 2 which are definitely worth playing after you have finished playing the game. These are the mods I've played and recommend:

Mission: Impossible - New Dawn Mod

Max Payne Chronicles Mod

7th Serpent: Crossfire (Episode One) Mod

7th Serpent: Genesis Mod

Mona: The Assassin Mod

Besides the above I've heard about the 'Cinema Mod' for MP2 is also very good, I have not played it though. It introduces a lot of changes to the game I believe. :)

The Max Payne games are among my all time favorite PC titles.

I think in part what sets them apart from other games is the ability to inject genuine emotion into the story and gameplay.

At least for me, I could in some ways compare them Bioshock - their individual parts aren't the "best", but when taken as a whole they impress mightily.

MP2 didn't sell particularly well despite being far superior to the original. It was a heavily pirated release, which I believe contributed to the absence of a third game.

My guess would be because 2 wasent as good as 1. The storyline was weaker. Its actually one of the few FPS games ive never replayed, the first game however was awesome, full of cool levels and some crazy shit with a massive corporate showdown at the end, good stuff!

Of course you never replayed it, because it is a third person shooter.
Anyway I liked the first one better, the guy playing Max Payne really looked as if he was on the edge.

I'll install them and report back when I finish with normal single player, but be warned that I'm going at an extremely slow pace :p

Why do you think the first one was better? the only thing I'm missing from it is Max's pouty face, everything else is better than the original, well I can't comment on the story until I've finished the game but so far so good.

I think the second one is better than the first as well. The story has a much better flow than the first, and it is a more polished game as well. Both were awesome though.

I almost never like 3rd person shooters, but these are an exception since the cameras work just like they should. Enjoyed them both, played the first one several times.

Both awesome games, two of my favorites. I hope they do the series justice with the sequel :).

The second was a better game, but ideally you'd expect that from a sequel. Several moments stick out - the funhouse, dreams, etc. - but on the other hand it was similar to the first, which for me paved the way for more story-driven games in the genre.

Oh man, the funhouse level was definitely one of the most unique levels I've seen in video games! :)

they were fun but I didn't like the voice acting and the comic book looking static image cut scenes didn't do much for me. Games were also too short, both combined would have made 1 good game length wise.

Mini Spoiler:

Isn't this game th one with th construction site? I remember the sound of the rain, and the lightening, and the atmosphere of that one. Pretty epic for a game that was 4 years ago....
