Max normal limit on credit card

What's the max normal limit on a regular consumer credit card? I'm not talking about cards like Amex Black or some card with supposed no predefined limit. Is it $25,000? Or $100,000?

Do you have to provide additional financial info to get above 25k?

I know that's incorrect because all my cards have higher limits than that. But my cards have been stuck at 25k for years so I'm just wondering if that's the ceiling.

It depends on the person and the issuing bank. I have a Citibank card that started out at a 5k limit when I first got it, but it's got a 25k limit now, through regular credit line increases.

I have cards with $9k, 15k, and 33k limits

What kind of card is the one with 33k limit? Did you have to provide additional financial records?

I've never asked for credit line increases on any of my cards. Banks have just increased on their own over the years but have stopped since hitting 25k couple years back. This is for all my cards. So I'm just wondering if that's the ceiling for normal increase.

My highest is $19k which is high enough for me.

$15k should be adequate for your average consumer.

High credit limit = bragging = stupid

As usual, RossMan FTW.

However, I do like having a cool looking card I got off your site 😉.

It makes me laugh when I get these cards and they give me a huge credit limit, I am NEVER going anywhere near that amount on a credit card, not unless I need to go to (insert name of country with no extradition treaty here) in a big damn hurry 😀

I have a friend who got a preapproved card, with a 25k minimum limit, but when he got the card, which was a Visa from somewhere, it had a 50k limit.

I see.

Chase. No, they just kept increasing it.

Ok. So there is no ceiling at 25k. Thank you for the info. I was just curious because all my cards stopped at 25k, and I thought I read somewhere you have provide tax returns or some sort of financial records to get above that. Now I know that's not true.

 mine are $10-15K but I've never asked for an increase or charged over $5K in a month.

I pay each month so I've also never done a big balance transfer.

I don't have high credit problems, but my Dad, in a previous career as a salesman, used to have massive monthly charges, always paid in full on time. He cancelled several cards on principle when they started hitting 30-50k credit limits (pretty close to his entire after-tax earnings at the time).

My average limit is around $7k-$10k and I rarely spend even $1k per transction. The average is anywhere from $50 - $150.

You may have above average income then. I got this info from a Chase Manhattan banker.

Well I used to charge a lot in the monopoly money days of the tech stock bubble but with most of my monopoly money vanished I try to keep it under control now. I could really rack up rewards points and test the limits of my cards if I wanted to by charging materials and supplies for my jobs but my vendors and suppliers prefer I use their in-house charge accounts and not charge on CCs to save them on merchant fees.
