nForce4 SLI with AMD FX-55, dual 6800 Ultras, 2GB DDR500 and a pair of 74GB WD Raptors RAID0?

What about dual Opteron 250s? Of course no board exists to support them and SLI

Instead of this, make a much sounder investment by spending about $1500 on the comp and putting the rest of your windfall toward a Benz or something.

Dual Opterons would probably make you less CPU limited in SLI if such a board existed and they were fast enough, as IIRC two 6800U's in SLI are still a bit CPU limited with an FX-55.

Already got a Benz. A Porsche, too. Lottery? That reminds me to buy a ticket tonight!

Thats about at the top, but RAID 0 offers negligible performance increase at double the risk of failure.
Really raptors in RAID 1 may be a good option (if you really need to buy dual raptors)

Just THAT IS THE FASTEST SYSTEM GUYS. I can't get why you guys can not accept RAPTORS they are very good and just because you don't have them means you should shoot them down.

Hehe. The OP doesn't seem like he needs to know how to do that, though, given that he's already got a Benz and Porsche.

Nobody is "shooting [the Raptors] down." Don't get like this merely because of advice in one of your previous threads (others may search for the circumstances of this). Someone merely brought up a valid point above, not about Raptors themselves, but about RAID 0 (if you're going to do RAID, do either RAID 1 or hardware RAID 5, for data security--RAID 0 yields too small of a performance increase to make it worthwhile, especially on a desktop, when factoring in the increased failure risk of the array). And besides, Raptors aren't the fastest out there--there are SCSI drives going to 15000 RPM.

I was not "shooting them down". I was telling him to get RAPTORS, but to not use RAID 0.

Heres a tip:

Make sure you understand a post before you flame.

I have explained why Dell and Alienware are good choices in multiple threads, so your insult is moot. However, I know there are many reasons to not get a porsche or benz, from cost to performance. He seems to be the type that buys what he thinks is "cool", not what's best.

I thought for the desktop, SATA Raptors were the fastest, even though only 10KRPM. I've always been a SCSI man, for better or worse (and usually lots more money). I've got 15K drives - loud, hot, and freakin expensive, not to mention the controller to drive them.

A pair of them in RAID1 on a 128MB 64-bit, 133MHz PCI-X controller should be fast, eh? Too bad no MB that supports FX-55 also supports PCI-X

Are you suggesting either of the vehicle are slouches? Benz is SuperCharged and Porsche is hand-tweaked air-cooled monster.

Check out storagereview.com, and/or the latest 'rehash RAID/SCSI/SATA all over again' thread. The newer second-generation 15KRPM SCSI drives are faster at everything than the 74GB Raptor. VERY pricey, though.

Lots of cars are supercharged. Lots of cars are faster, better handling, and even better looking for cheaper.

Granted and true enough. I just happen to like these two.
