Goddamn, I need to follow this more. I'm a hardcore Broncos fan living away from TV :( I didn't even know we had Clarett. Do we still have Rice?

He just needs to get back into shape.. he'll get picked up again. Can't really blame a guy for taking a gamble for the potential of millions of dollars right away as opposed to waiting.

edit: apparently he was tryign to be a good little boy, but after he gets his numbers back up he'll get picked up.

Clarett's second gamble was on his contract. He felt he was a first-round choice and wanted a contract similar to what a first-rounder would receive. To accomplish that, he tried to do get that contract with incentives. The four-year deal he pushed for included no signing bonus.

The Broncos were willing to give him a $410,000 signing bonus, but Clarett opted to push that money into workout bonuses in 2006 through 2008. Clarett agreed to only a $230,000 base salary in 2005. If he put up good numbers, Clarett had the opportunity to make $7 million over the four years of his contract.

1. OSU is not a dirty program. Give me a break.

2. Clarett was not pampered whilst at OSU. In fact, that was one of the things that led to his problems there... he didn't get the pampering he was accustomed to.

People need to think before spouting off about stuff they know nothing about.

And for the record... Clarett was not liked AT ALL around Columbus/OSU. Many people were quite happy to see him sidelined for the amount of time he was.

I don't understand how someone with that much talent ends up on the scrap heap. Where did the talent go? And it's not just about getting back into shape. The Broncos would not release himif it was all about working out some more.

Right, just the Eagles fans are happy to see T.O. sidelined.

Wait, no. Regardless of the off-the-field circumstance, you want your stars on the field. People will bitch and moan about them while they're causing problems, but when they're producing on the field, none of that matters to the fans.

but just think...instead of just switching to another college that would've pampered him (he was a decent college ball player...there are a LOT of schools that would have been happy with him) he was stupid enough to try for the NFL...why the broncos ever even picked him up is beyond me...

You and your ilk didn't seem to upset when Cheater Clarett was running you to a national title.

edit: NM sounds like he was ungrateful and greedy after being picked up in the first place. WTF is up with some people

You are reading that completely wrong. Clarett wanted the Broncos to pay him only if he performed. No performance, no money for Clarett. He was not being greedy and going for a big signing bonus, he wanted the league minimum salary, and he would only get paid bank if he did well on the field. This is the exact opposite of being ungrateful and greedy. Most teams would LOVE to make more deals like this with players.

You people are ignorant. Do you even have any idea how much time he actually spent on the field that season? All you guys know are what's been spoonfed to you by ESPN. Take it from someone who lives down the street from this stuff... people were quite delighted to see him go. First of all, DEEKO, he wasn't the star back that people made him out to be. He had a few key plays, yes, but nothing more. He looked good in comparison to 2nd and 3rd string, but that's not really saying much. He had a shoulder injury that never healed, he was a baby on and off the field, and was a destructive factor to the team. I could give a crap about a few touchdowns... his negatives far outweighed the positives, and everyone around here knows that now and we knew that then.

I resent having some chump a couple hundred miles from the state line telling me what happened a few thousand yards from my doorstep 3 years ago.

He wasn't just plain arrogant. He assumed that he would come into the league and dominate and rake in that $7 Million without any problems. It's the same reason why he tried to go into the league early. He is just full of himself.

What I know is this.

No Clarett that one year = No National Championship

Hell, you would have lost to Michigan without a doubt if Clarett wasn't playing.

Because a man who rushed for 1237 Yards and scores 16 TDs meant NOTHING to the team.

Pulled from Google:
NAME G RUSHES YARDS YDS/RUSH YDS/G TD
1. Maurice Clarett 11 221 1237 5.6 112.5 16
2. Lydell Ross 14 167 619 3.7 44.2 6
3. Maurice Hall 11 78 370 4.7 33.6 4
4. Craig Krenzel 14 125 368 2.9 26.3 3
5. Chris Gamble 14 3 49 16.3 3.5 1

Tell me again how he wasn't the star RB? That's one hell of a backup, and I'm sure one it really upset you to have.

Maximum would have been $7 million over four years. Do you pay attention to the NFL salaries at all? Even if he hit all of the performance goals, 1.75 million/year avg is very low on the pay scale for a running back.
